new gun calibers

Well yer right about the RUM bein miserable to shoot without a muzzle break, look into the quiet break, makes a difference. Kicks about like a 243. Far as the range goes thats up to each individual and wha they want to try to accomplish and how much time and money they wanna spend getting good at it. Before the economy dumped I was able to put together a pretty fun long range gun in the 300RUM, shooting clay pigeons out to 900yds. Not gonna say how far i have and will shoot game, that'll just start another BS session, but I will say that when you start gettin out there the extra vel and energy is needed to get bullets to open and penetrate. At 900 yds I have the equivalent of a 30-30 at the muzzle.

if you cant get closer than 900 yards, you are not much of a hunter. JMO.

If u think all it takes is money to catch game, yer not much of a houndsman, JMO

ferjr, don't know if i agree with ya 100 percent. when ya reload , and try to shoot as acurate a gun as you can, when ya get any where between 500 and 800 yards i'm just as happy hitting a clay bird as a 380 class bull. but do agree you need a wind gauge and good mil-dot scope. but i guess it depends do you enjoy the 20 yard bow shot or the extra long range rifle shot. either way you have to work to put yourself in the position to do either one. one man's trash is another's treasure. good luck!

i agree with you slowandeasy, i just dot think it is a good idea to take a shot that has so many different factors to consider, that could result in the crippleing of an animal. but to each his own.

we have some how got off the subject that i posted. but if you are shooting an ultra mag., you have to use premium bullets such as nosler partitions or you will have bullet failure at close range, and if you are using a bullet that will with stand the extreme volocities that the ultra mag shoots at close range, you are not going to have optimal bullet expansion at those extended ranges such as 900 yards. not a risk i am willing to take.

WOW, I'm not talking about goin down to walmart, buyin an RUM and goin out and lobin 900 yd shots! Every bullet manufacturer goes ahead and takes the time to test what velocities are required for bullet expansion, if u had a clue about what you are talking about instead of pulling this stuff out your a#% just to argue, you would be surprised to learn just how much velocity these "high end" bullets don't need to expand, if shot out of a caliber that can deliver the needed velocity and penetration, creating the energy needed to kill at longer ranges. The bullet will most likely expand, but if the energy to penetrate isn't there then you have an issue. Do you really wanna keep arguing about something you know very little about? I have enough energy and velocity to pass completely through an elk at 900. I have personally executed a shot on a deer at 790 that destroyed a front shoulder and lodged under the skin of the back of the opposite hind quarter, it was a quartering towards shot that passed the entire length of the body. Call it irresponsible if you want, but I have thrown alot of copper down the barrel shooting long range, I don't do it in the wind, even though I do carry an anemometer and the scope is equiped with BDC dials matched to the BC of the bullet, velocity and elevation. I'm not one of those hold over and hope guys. 500 to 600 with that gun is the equivalent of 200 to 300 with the typical hunting rig.

doesnt look like nothing special to me, looks like a remington model 700 with a cheap aftermarket stock and a harris bi pod, i cant tell what kind of scope you have but i am in the least bit impressed. i know what the guns will shoot. i have one that i got from my dad, its a sendero, straight out of remingtons custom shop with a 6.5x20 luepold vx3 lr with mil dots. i know excactly what i am talking about. i shoot the hell out of this gun, i just dont hunt with it, there isnt any place arround here where a guy is going to need something like that to hunt with. it is a great long range varmit gun were you have plenty of long distances to shoot, but impractical for anything arround here, a 300 yard shot is a long shot in this area. i dont know why you insist on argueing with me. you think you know it all, you dont know sh*t! nice deer by the way. i am stating my opinion, if you dont like it f-off, you dont have to read it. it doesnt matter what i say you are going to argue. you actually think you cant do the same with a 300 weaterby or 30-378 weatherby or any numerous cartiges you are sadly mistaken. how often do you really need that gun? i know i have never needed more than my little ol .280 rem. sounds to me like you have a bad case of big bubba syndrom. and i have seen alot of bullet failures in these guns from bullets that dont stand up to volocity. most 30 cal bullets were never desinded to be reaching that kind of volocity and will come a part at close distance. i have been reloading for quite some time and you are not going to tell me any thing i dont already know or have already done.

I have to agree with you to some degree, I hear of alot more "hunters" buying RUM's and other high powered calibers and replacing stalking skill (hunting) with distance shooting. Some are damb good, some wound and lose with no regrets (sadly).

Now though, the reason so many wildcats are hitting mass production, is Americana. This is America, and We CAN have what We want. If "it's" not available, We'll make it. Nothing wrong with that. Like you mentioned, most are only different by theory, not practicallity. If this doesn't suite you, maybe we should all be driving Volkswagons

larry if you are in to all this long range shooting that you say, then why do you have that lite weight barrel on this supossed long range target gun. you say you dont shoot in the wind, you must be pretty damn good to know if there is no wind where you are sitting and also know there isnt any wind 900 yards down feild, i guess there isnt any wind currents blowing were you are at, nothing like any cross drafts or anything.

About the only thing good OBAMA has done is boost the hell out of the gun industry. Gun makers and ammo manufacturers are making a killing thanks to him. All the new calibers are just to sell more guns. Suckers me in everytime. Cant resist a new gun.

I like the short mags, get great velocities in a short action gun. Win, rem, and ruger all making their"own" diff short action 30 cal kinda of stupid. I dont think all these fad calibers will last so a guy better reload if he is going to invest in them

Couldnt resist the RUMS either, they definitely have there place in the long distance shooting world. Chunkn a 250gr bullet at 3000 fps out of my 338 RUM is too much fun. And man it hits with a hell of a thump too. Kills the same as my 300 win but has half the wind drift at long ranges.

you don't need a heavy barrel to be accurate, it's not a target gun and it's heavy enough as it is, i doubt you've ever heard of Nor-Pac. Stock has an alum bedding chassis that is also bedded. you tell me how cheap it is Done arguing with you ferjerker, like i said before.....
