Also new to the biggamehoundsman

Post by fgarrett »

My name is Fontaine Garrett. I live in Carlsbad NM. I've been trying to hunt lions for awhile by calling, then for Fathers Day my wife got me a two month old Walker pup. I'm still trying to decide if she did me a favor or cursed me this pup is so much deferent than any dog I have ever had. I have never laughed so much in my life. I have been told I might be to old to chase the hounds (52) but I am going to try, if I can do it long enough to lean it I'll teach my grandsons and grandduaghter.

Fontaine, welcome and NO you are far from too old. I'm also 52. Been at it almost 30 years and plan on another 25 at least. Have yet to have anyone beat me to a tree yet.

good luck perhaps you can avoid the learning curve that can stretch into eternity and get right after them. school that pup to the best of your ability and spend as much time on the training aspect as you can. first off it will help you come to understand what it is your dog is doing and telling you. and secondly you can clearly tell him when he's doing what you want or not. the only advice i can give you is that a hound is still a dog no matter his purpose or packaging. have fun.
