Well for a line of bear dogs, the best line I have had the pleasure to hunt over, or seen hunt, was the camphouse red plotts, I hunted over a lot of good dogs, but they are, were what you call special. I seen several times, dogs that couldnt smell the bear, they walked out with it. I also hunted with don several times, when he was coming back here, during the summers, and even seen skittles work, which was all his foundation, and she is a legend to this day, in any bear hunters book that seen her work. LOL

its hard to pin point one line of dogs because i have seen 2 litter mate brothers with totaly different noses and trailing habits...personally i think it is how dogs are trained and hunted...some wana put there noses down and work out a track others want to drift a track....Ive even seen some that will sight run a snow lion track only putting there nose in the track ever once in a while

Well I'll give this a try. For the walkers, the strain that seems to be pretty cold are Finley River, Joe House's Clint, Tom-Tom, and Lipper, the Hardwood Bozo dogs, Spring Creek Rock, Lone Pine, and I personally couldn't get enough of Johnson's Banjo ( lots of luck) The English dogs it would have to be Ed Bates' Hard Time Speck, Roland Dickey's Junior line, Doug Watson's Meeks John and Karshners Tina, Eugene Boyd's Little Joe, Leroy Penneys Kojak and Crank, Berton Oney's Sam and Bawly, Lightfoot Bruno and the Lightfoot hounds. The red dogs???? You plott guys it would have to be Dwayne Smith from Vt and Danny Luke from Hoosik Falls,NY. If you have not heard of them you have had your head in the sand :D For the blue dogs I would have to go with Sugarcreek,Smokey River, Vaughn, Sabastain, Utchman, and Minnisink Valley. OH!!! Then we have the Arizona dry ground dogs. They come from a different planet    A small percentage of their owners would like you to believe that any of the above dogs couldn't cut it in Arizona. But we all know if we could follow the paper trail some of these hounds , and maybe alot of them would show up. This being said out of all the pups produced from all of the above hounds probably 35% were culls, 55% of them were fair to midlin, and 10% were as good as mommy and daddy. hopefully mom and dad were worth a hoot. (another story) I think the reason you ask this question was for possibly purchasing a pup or hound. Just remember because you are spending your hard earned cash doesn't justify allowing someone to lie to you so that it makes you feel better about spending it. So, if someone tells you that all their stuff walks on water run as fast as you can. and remind yourself that no matter what color or what kind of game they run and tree there is a reason these hounds can demand 4 figure prices. It's because very few of them make it...Good Luck

There are so many bull shitters out there in the hound world that it's not even funny. In my opinion 80% of people with hounds are full of it. It's sad, I don't know how people can lie a boast. It's one thing to talk up a dog a little with your buddies, but I think a lot of it is they don't know any better and that the stories and lies get easier to tell over time. There's great lines of dogs that are papered and lines that are not, but I would find a real hunter who has seen or hunted with the dogs you might be interested in and go from there. Don't be afraid to ask around, but be damn sure your askin the right guy for his knowledge and info, not the dingleberry constantly bragging on his dogs cause everyone has the best!
