Re: new pup soon
do as much reading on here as you can...you will pick up alot, and you bet one dog can do it, when i first started running all i had was one old black and tan and i ran him forever by himself....its good to have a few dogs as they will learn from one another and work in teams but there is nothing wrong with running one dog. as for the "will it hunt question" i have seen duds (culls) that are out of some really good dogs so there is always a chance of getting a dud but the most important thing is to spend alot of time with the dog as a pup and make him mind you very well that way he will handle good. there is nothing worse then a dog that does not know his own name, its all trial and error i have ruined some good dogs in my time because i just flat out had no idea what i was doin, start there and like i said do some reading on here....feel free to PM me if you ever have any questions GOOD LUCK!

the best way that i know is to kill a coon and skinn him out play with the pup with the hide as much as possible and use the words that u will use while hunting I use when i {cast} hunt them up and when they tree i use, talk to em, or talk em up and when I shoot it out i say {get a coon} and read walking with wick or even as simple as were the red furn grows once the pups responed to your camands by coon scent and run drags and hide the drag in a tree turn the pup lose and see wat happens with a lot of work he will be hunting for you and u will be haveing a lot of fun pm for any ?????????????????????????????
it all about the dogs

Brutha, I wish I started as young as you, I have only been working hounds for 2.5 years, worked bird dogs for 10+ years, and everyone has thier own ways and opinions. I have two pieces of advice, take em if you want. Listen to everyone, you can take bits and pieces of everyones success and failures and apply them to your training plans. The other, befriend a houndsmen, hunt with them with out your dog, then if they will let you, bring your pup along (when he is ready). The dogs will teach your dog how to hunt. If he has it in him, and most dogs will hunt, some not so good, others will be fantastic, every dog is different. When I say when he is ready I mean what the other guy said first, you have to have a dog that handles, if you take a dog out that has bad habits and wont listen, you wont have a hunting buddy long. Even good dogs pick up bad habits if they see a dog that is getting away with it. I hope this helps, start that pup young on hot dogs and treats, getem treen'g in the yard and treat them well, hunting dogs want to please. Good luck .
