Anti Hunters Past and Present

Post by FullCryHounds »

My son-in-law is a full time fishing guide, and pro angler. He has a very successful guiding business here in CO. and writes many articles for magazines, and is on the radio every week talking about hunting and fishing.

I caught him a lion a couple of years ago and of course, he was hooked on running hounds too. He now has his own dog. Nate is very involved with several video production companies and at the time, his hunt was videoed and made into a short video clip. You can view his hunt by clicking on the link on my signature.
Last week, he received an email from someone that apparently didn’t appreciate the lion hunting video and threatened his life and was very explicit in how they were going to deal with him. The email was forwarded on to our local warden and also the sheriff. We know who the guy is and he will be dealt with accordingly.
I told Nate not to get too excited about it and that I had received all kinds of hate mail and threats in the past also. I dug through some files and came up with some pretty cool stuff I thought you guys might enjoy. Back in the 80s, I was living in California working for Lockheed as an engineer in the ‘Skunk Works’ division on the F-117 and F-22 projects.
Back then, we ran bears in the southern Sierras, the Piute Mtns. and all up and down the coast range. We did some depredation work and also helped catch a few lions that had attacked or killed someone. I pulled out some of the old articles I wrote and thought you might enjoy reading them. The lion debate was hot and heavy back then in CA. I also found some of the hate mail I received. Remember, this was before anyone had email.

INTERESTING READING. IT IS A SHOCKER ANYKIND OF HUNTING IS LEGAL IN CALI. WASHINGTON AND OREGON ARE JUST AS BAD AND I THINK COLORADO IS HEADED THAT DIRECTION TOO. I AM CONSTANTLY QUESTIONED ABOUT MY DOG BOX AND CAN SEE THE DISCUST WHEN I TELL THEM THEY ARE HUNTING DOGS. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN TOO SCARY FOR THEM TO WANT TO FIGHT ABOUT IT, BUT IM SURE IT IS COMING SOONER THAN LATER.

Yea, sadly in our Country there's a slow but growing paradigm shift towards anything having to do with "Mother Nature". Similar to going from the Industrial Revolution to the Age of Information. I can't imagine a time when Americans can't hunt, log, mine, extract, fish or otherwise harvest....but it's slowly coming.

I'm new to hounds, but what has really attracted me is it's viably a "catch and release" hunting opportunity. The same that attracted me to flyfishing vs bait, but even C&R fishing is under attack.
Remember: alcohol won't solve your problems....but neither does milk.
