loose treen??

Post by outlawhounds »

I have a two almost three year old male walker /bluetick that trees hard on bears but when I get on a cat he's really loose at the tree! He loves chasin cats very cat minded! My older dog keeps the cat their. But this younger. One would let the cat out of the tree if the older one wasn't their! Any ideas on making him stay on the tree???

There are alot of hounds that tree well on bear and cougar and when it comes to bobcat just will never make the grade when it comes to locating and treeing. If he is three and not showing any interest in bobcat trees more than likely never will. I know there may be exceptions to this but it has been my experiance over the years that either they have it or they dont on tree power and locating of a bobcat, by saying this I meen it has to come natural to the hound. I for one do not have a dog in my pack that can not trail, tree and locate a bobcat on its own, that is my preferance, with the exception of a young dog that is in the training stages. I know there are alot of great bobcat hunters that have a mixed pack and each dog ads to the chase and tree, if this hound is adding to the chase and you have other dogs that can put an end to the chase at the tree he may be a valuable part of your pack. Its all up to you wheather he is a asset to your bobcat pack or not.
