First week of Maine bear season

This was the first bear of the 2010 season for me.The dogs cold trailed a mile or so and then jumped it and treed it pretty quickly. It took us about an hour to get to the tree only to find out that we could of almost driven to the tree but the road that they were beside didn't show up on the Garmin.lol

The dogs were Willie 9 years old,Sissie 1 year old,Duke and Black almost 3 year old litter mates and Bonnie 2 years old. The old man Rooster 12 years old did make it to the tree after we had the bear dressed out.lol

Yeah,he lives 5 minutes from me. I bought some of my first dogs from him back in the early eighty's late seventy's. Thanks ferjr.

you probably had the pleasure hunting behind old gun. if you guy's kept that line of dogs golng i bet both of ya are giving them bear a fit. i only met him when he was out in ohio at ed's, pretty wild times back then. well best of luck i'll yak at ya again sometime!

Yeah I hunted behind him alot. Thats who my first pup I got from him was out of.

spruce mountain, your first one didn't happen to be a male. and did ya coon hunt him alot? possibly at the world hunt in indiana?

No it was a female. I didn't competition hunt her much she was a meat dog and she spoiled me. She was one of the best dogs I will ever own.

spruce mountain, yeah i no what ya mean by spoil ya. i let all that stuff slip through my fingers. trying to make a living, and half ass training on weekends. i thought you might have been someone i hunted with. but either way it was nice talking to someone that knows what those rascals were like to hunt behind!! sure were nice pictures ya posted. and if you still have any of that line left i might give ya a hollar when i get to runnin on a more full time basis. good luck and i'll talk to ya again!

Six dogs? I always had one or two slip the lead too when i hunted in maine good job looks good

We are alowed to run 6 dogs now in Maine. New this year.

Treed a good bear this week,305 lbs.The dogs cold trailed about an hour and jumped it and ran it up on the mountain and treed it. Willie,Duke and Bonnie treed it.
