Hey all, I am going down to Mariposa Ca. for thanksgiving this year. I am thinking about buying a bear tag and license and bringing the mutts for a little bear hunting while I am there. I'm not wanting to kill anything just want to run dogs. My dogs will rig and catch there own bear so I dont need help but I'd love to meet and hunt with anyone down there anyway.
I grew up there and knew my way around real good as a kid but that was 20 years ago. Anyone hunt there or had any luck there? Maybe Chowchilla Mount. or midpines? When I was a kid there was plenty of bears there just not sure how it is now.

You might want to talk with Bear Hunter on here he lived in that area. Hows the cat hunting over there where you live? I helped a buddy move to Spring Creek about 5-6 yrs ago looked like great cat country.

Lion hunting is decent, bobcats are tough in the mountains here due to rock piles. If you can find them down in the valleys its better.

Pull out your map and check out the Merced River recreation area just above Mariposa. That is where I used to hunt. People are telling me there are still lots of bears in there more people but lots of bears still.
