Torn tendons in hind leg
Torn tendons in hind leg
I have a 3 yr old female about 60 lbs that tore the tendons on the inside of her left rear knee. The vet wanted to due surgery but I couldn't afford it and the chance for reinjuring after the surgery were very high. Has anyone had this happen to a dog, what was the recovery time period, and to what percent of previous ability did the dog return to?

Re: Torn tendons in hind leg
I had a two year old Border Collie cut the tendon in his leg in the stiffle joint. The vet sewed the tendon together and put him in a brace to hold the joint straight and to take the strain off the tendon. It wasn't a week later and he had torn the tendon apart. The vet recommended keeping him in a crate to confine him for several months. I kept him on a short chain for a week before he had completely lost his mind. I turned him loose and he's just fine. The dog is a very adaptable animal. He limps a little when jumping down from high places(tractor cab and such), other than that, no one knows that he's ever been hurt.
