i already paid in full for a pup now the litter has come down with parvo. if they pull threw will they ever be the same... should i just get my money back or what.. its a great cross and i want one just dont know if i should still get one if they pull threw. thanks for any help..

if they pull through with it they will be just fine wont hurt thier ability one bit.

Best dog I ever owned had parvo real bad when she was a pup I thought she was going to die for sure. I have heard that it sometimes stunts their growth but this was not the case with my dog.

Some dogs may get brain damage from the extreme fever parvo brings, have seen a couple that were extremely slow thinkers (retarded) after surviving parvo. Most, I would say 97% are just fine. Something I would like to add, when buying shots don't buy them from the feed store where you don't know how long they have been on a delivery truck getting warm. Buy them from your vet, haven't had a problem with parvo since I started doing that.

I absolutely agree with Cold Track. Last series of parvo shots a litter of mine got from the feed store didn't immunize them, and the whole litter got it at 5 months old. Since then I've only got them from my vet and haven't had any worries.

I've had the same trouble with feed store vaccines. I shot my litter that got parvo and haven't bought vaccines from a feed store since. Maybe I should have let the litter go to see if they'd make it but didn't like seeing the little guys suffer so I put them down.

well the a few of the litter got parvo not all of them and they got em in to the vet fast after 4 days every single pup was up running and playing barkin bein pups..

Do you guys think all feed store shots are spoiled or maybe its just some??? For sure its how its cared for not whos selling it. Give me more info guys.

I don't know where the problem starts, but I will not ever use a vaccine from a feed store again. I had a friend last year got a bassett pup and I told her not to give it the vaccines from the feed store, she did it anyway because it was close by, her pup died of parvo at 8 months old. If you are wanting to save $3, it's not worth it!
I either pick them up from my vet or I order them out of Revival when I'm doing a series on a litter, they come in a cooler box with gel packs that are still frozen when I get them.

Well it didn't hurt my old dog Tank. He turned into one heck of a hound and was pretty big as you can see.

give proper dosage of "TAMI-FLU"(sp?) and saddle bag IV's for 9 days. they ,maker past the 9 day mark your all good. use electrolytes, feed preaid chicken and rice, and you should be good,


had 5 get sick lost 1 dog. (that one dog didnt get tami-flu tho or iv) she was brought to a vet and was cut open thinking it was intestinal blockage. even tho i told this vet what to do she ignored me and i saved the rest after that ordeal.

i have a link you can get tami-flu online, with no percription. if any one wants to keep this stuff on hand i know i always will.

had a buddy come with his 6 dogs and got all mine all sick (6 dogs)and they stopped moving and dropping like fly's till i fixed em up.

There is a possibility that any vaccine can be bad but if is keep cold it should be good. I would question when you were vaccinating your pups. There is a lot of talk out there as to when you vaccinate a pup ask your vet. According to vets you should wait until 10 weeks. The mothers immunity protects the pups until then. The mother should be vaccinated during pregnancy. Some studies show that vaccinating a pup before 10 weeks can null what immunity it gets from the mother. Be sure you use a puppy shot for the first one. If I get a puppy that has been vaccinated before 10 weeks I vaccinate every week until 10 weeks. then every pup needs a shot every month until 4 months. Ask a vet in your area what is best. Here most vets will not vaccinate with out a office call and will not let a dog in the clinic that has not been vaccinate by a vet. Dewey

To each his own!! For the most part I agree with Dwalton. I have been vaccinating pups and dogs for 25-30 years and never had a problem that I would blame on vaccine purchased from a feed store and that is where I get most of mine. I DO NOT OVERDO IT. I wait until the pup is about 4 weeks past weaning to give the first shot. I give another 4 weeks later and then a final when it has it's adult teeth at about 7-8 months. Has always worked for me. I DO KEEP MY PUPS ISOLATED FROM OTHER ANIMALS.

my housedog was the only pup of a litter of six to live after the entire litter contracted parvo- even with vet care for most of the others in the litter. I found out when I met someone else at the vet that had taken a pup from the litter and was there because his pup had gotten sick as well. She lived to be 19, ran around tirelessly when we went out and was smarter than me. I would not be afraid to take a pup that had recovered from parvo. If I'd have known I'd get 19 great years out of her when she first came down with parvo I'd have not given the vet bills a second thought, but at the time I waivered because they were transfusions, night time checks, overnight stays, etc involved and i was paying for school,BEST money I ever spent bar none. I wish that old girl would have lived forever- what a great companion she was. Other than cancerous tumors in her advanced years and some poor teeth due to her refusing to eat dry food, and I really didn't supplement that with any bones, etc to clean her teeth better, she was a picture of health throught her life.
