i have a bucket full of cast bullets one of my brothers loaded up. they're a little hot to tell the truth. but the cast bullet hold up extremely well they are apparently a very hard alloy. the solid copper work super too. not just in the 44 I've used them in a variety of calibers and they perform as advertised. solids or controlled expansion.

pegleg, that is what my dad uses in his 44, he swares by them. i think he uses a 278gr. elmer keith style hard cast with a gas check. i have shot them in my gun, they shoot really good, i havnt shot any game with them, but was thinking about giving them a try.
Re: what bullets do you guys use in your 44 mags?
I've shot some game with them and had no failures so far. penetration and weight retention is good and deformation low. have had some frontal head shots and a couple shoulder bones hit. if you know your game they make a good choice in handguns. I do believe that the copper slugs make a better choice when there are more variables. distance, bullet velocity, game. the performance seems more researched and controlled. then again cast bullets have a few hundred years on them too.

I have used about every handgun bullet out there over the years and relatively speaking most of them do a good job if used on intended species. The 44 magnum although eclipsed recently by more powerful rounds like the 460 and 500 is still right at the top of the list in my books for true big game handgun hunting. I do not include the specialty hanguns such as scoped contendars and such. These are fine hunting tools but lack thae actual portability that makes the hangun so efficient for many sporting uses.

Check out this sight I have been using their hard cast gas checked bullets in my 44's and 41 magnum and also in the 45 LOng colt and even some 357 magnum. With a 265 Gr. Large Flat point in the 41 Magnum loaded up stiff to about 1200 FPS out of my 657 it will take both shoulders out on an elk.
Hound hunters be careful however shooting these into a bayup becasue they can whistle right thru a bear and kill a hound.
The Beartooth people are fine Christian folks and a pleasure to deal with.
