Anyone on the board running big game with jagdterriers? I run mine on smaller varmints, so far (my oldest jagd is not quite 3), and they run rabbits under my hawks for me. I know the dam and sire of my best dog were run on cats and bear, and that there are quite a few jagds hunting pigs these days too. Just wondering what you're running

Seems to be a lot of people reading this topic but no one has anything to say...

Here are some pics of these dogs working, sorry no big game yet, hope to get to California this winter to chase some pigs!

A guy came down here to Idaho from ND with a few jagds and some hounds to run bear with me. They did pretty good. Treed great!!!! The only problem is they could not keep up with the hounds at full speed. However they did make the races even though they were a little behind. We ended up catching one bear in a cave and those little jagds went in after him. They are fearless little buggers. If they had more time with that bear they would be dead now. They had to be pulled out and looked like little spitballs covered in bear slobber. After a few stitches and a bath they were as good as new. I never thought I'd own a lap dog but now I'm getting one for myself to walk to the tree with and get coons out of holes.

Here's a coon we got with them in the Willamette Valley. one of the jagds found it in a hole made from the creek bank sliding down. It was his first face to face coon at 10 months old and he was getting it and giving it until my older male and a female pup piled in to help. At that point the coon dove out under the bank, and the jagds either dove after it or had it and didn't let go, whatever the case, I was standing over the whole thing on a log and one second my wife's lurcher dog was pawing at the bank whining and the next second he had the coon by the chest shaking the devil out of it, with three jagds attached to it. Took me a while to get the coon onto dry land, the jagds were over their heads swimming and trying to kill it!

Ya, I owned him as a pup. He 1/2 greyhound 1/4 airedale and 1/4 bulldog. I had two of his sisters too. I thought that was him.

As a matter of fact, I seen him on his first piece of game ever in his life but Christian already had owned him by then. He went up under a creek bank and pulled a coon out in the water and I jumped down there and grabbed it away from him and tossed it up on the bank so he could have a better shot at it. He would have got whipped in that water and I didnt want his first experience ever to be a bad one.

Actually, thinkin back, I cant remember if I grabbed the dog or the coon but me and a buddy of mine at the time seperated the two somehow or another.

I thought about buying a jagd gyp and raising a litter of puppies. I would give them to all of the people I don't like for christmas

When I got my first jagd some people in my home town saw me with it and they always said something like, " holy hell them things are terrors!" Of course none of them ever worked their dogs. When people come in my house they think that Blue is 8 years old, she's 2. In the field is where people say " holy hell she's a terror, glad I'm not a ____" The intensity of these dogs is just fun to watch.


And you are speaking about Red, Darwin's sire. I have seen red kill lots of things and he is good at it. I thought he was 1/2 greyhound 1/4 airedale 1/4 pit. He was put over a 1/2 staghound (american type not 'scottish' breed) 1/2 airedale bitch, to make a litter of 1/8 pit 3/8 airedale 1/4 greyhound 1/4 staghound.

Darwin is much bigger than red, 2.5 inches higher at the shoulder and hip, longer with a heavier coat that is short and wooly and quite warm, thicker hide and bone structure, probably not as fast overall but Red is much faster on the jump.

He kills very fast, the terriers don't get hurt much anymore, but his primary objective is the safety of my 100 pound wife. He is a good boy.

Gotcha! I knew about that breeding also. Sorry I got them mixed up and yes that is his breeding. I meant pit bull dog when I said bulldog. I dont talk about them other shit eaters.

Yeah Red dog is a killer, and so are his sons, the two that I know are being worked. Am very excited to see him on pigs though I am sure he is too slow for coyotes, He should be a good speed to press jacks for falconry flights

Ya, I dont know about your dogs speed but the Red dog was not gonna be fast enough for coyotes and also he was gonna be too light in the ass. Perfect though for coon and nutria I'd think.

Well I would love to meet up some where sometime to see some fast dogs and get your opinion of how fast this one is, he's got a long back and his hips are curved under some, like a proper running dog, I forget the fancy name for it. He is for sure 'heavy in the ass', not sure if that is the technical term though
Only thing I can offer in return is something like a steelhead trip or to bring along some hawks and we can watch them kill things

Never personally owned one but we ran some in Africa they are some fearless little dogs lemme tell you. I'd love to have some out of good stock I think they would make great pig dogs here. We dogged some warthogs with the one we had named "Wind" he was a great dog and lived to hunt.
