Re: Dog Food?
Hounds need more then just dry food. First, I would suggest buying two types of dry food and mixing it then get them on a meat diet. You can use just about anything that you can get for free like deer, elk roadkill or meat from your hunting buddies thats been in their freezer for years. I use Bison because I have an endless supply. Ask around and you can usually end up with more meat then you can use. I feed meat 2-3 times a week in the off season and every day or every other day during season. You'll be amazed how much better they do when they are feed a good diet. Remember, dogs are predators and eat meat, not corn and oats.

i feed my diamond, extreme athelete, it is 32% protien and 25% fat. my dogs do extremely well on it, and it only takes a couple of cups compared to some other feed i have used that take five or six cups to acheive the same results. it may cost alittle more but when you consider the ammount you have to feed them, it is actually cheaper. you get twice the ammount of feedings per bag. any feed store that sells diamond can get it, they will probably have to order it, i havnt seen too many places that have it on there shelf. i beleive in feeding my dogs the best food i can get, "you dont feed a olympic sprinter cheese burgers from mac donalds" JMO.

add meat any way you can and buy dog foods with no corn or at least as far down the list as possible. i get scraps from the butcher which includes alot of bones doing this once a week does wonders. i noticed huge differances between my hounds and others after several straight days of hunting. if i rotate scraps and bones twice a week in warmer weather my hounds rarley touch there dry dog food and it is avaidible to them 24/7. butcher scraps are cheep but require a little bone clean up but due to the digestability the dogs hardly crap.
never doubt the dogs
