New to post there is a lot of good info. Ive been trapping bobcats for 4-5 years now and have always wanted to get into hunting cats and lions with hounds, Im looking into buying pups in the next few month, my question is 2 dogs enough to chase cats and lions with also should I buy and train 2 pups together or get one then get another one later on. ALso they will be family dogs and hunting dogs is this ok or not recomended. Also is there any books recomended on training dogs. Last question what breed of dog would you recomend. Any help would be much apreciated

Welcome aboard. My opinion is get two and work on them. two is enough to catch as long as nothing happens to either of them your good. if possible a started dog and a pup would speed the process up for ya. money well spent. hounds make some of the best familly dogs around. My best dogs are also familly pets around the house. I think the more human interaction they get the better they handle and the smarter they become.
as far as which dog to get. color doesn't mean a thing! papers and pedigrees don't mean a thing either. there are great dogs of every shape size and color. the most important thing (I think) is who you get the dog from. get them from someone who catches a ton of game and breeds traits that are pleasing to you. Hope this helps and good luck, Jared.

p.s. what part of utah are you out of ? I'm in saint george let me know if I can help in any way.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

Get 2 pups and an older dog, or get 1 and 1. The older dog will train the pup for you. Thats my opinion. I agree with every thing else that has been said. Dont waist your time looking at colors or pappers. The dog is the one that does the hunting! Good luck
