stocking area with coon

the woods that are big by me and dont have to many coon but are big enough to run i would like to trap some coons from a area that i cant run and stock the other place how long will they stay in the new area thanks i have pups i would like to train thanxz

As long as there is food they should stay. Also if you were to feed the ones that are already there they will repopulate better. You'll also find that more move in from the surrounding areas when you start feeding them. You'll have to check the game laws of course to make sure your legal.

I do this all the time. We got so many coon in the city it only makes sense. I just wish people would stop killing the coon I'm restocking. But I'm sure my efforts have been worth it. I've relocated more than I've killed this year. I like to give them a couple weeks before hunting them.

Here is two little ones that were causing some trouble in the city. They got a new home out on the river. (never went back to hunt these little guys)

you want to be sure your not stocking a area with a sick coon or you could pass it on to other coons. especially the ones coming from town can be carrying distemper and other diseases.

I never thought of that. How would a guy know if a coon was sick?

c aught some coon off of a trout farm, took them over 5 miles aWAY CAME BACK IN 2 TO 3 DAYS. they were marked.

Snake River islands Trueblue. You realy lookin to do some stocking or looking for some hunting. Either way, I don't care. Just leave a few out there for me to run. Get your self a canoe and happy hunting. Now you know what to ask Santa for. Let me know when you go, you need two people and two trucks one truck at the starting point an other truck at the finish point 5-10 miles apart and float from one island to the other. Now is the time to do it. Public access shuts down on the islands, I think March-July to protect waterfowl nesting. Of course I have a few other spots, I'm gonna save for myself.

Cjohnson what is marked? take a can of red wal-mart paint and give him a shot,use different colors for different times, was catching in live traps looks like they all came back.

I've never been much of a coon hunter but maybe I should give that try one of these days with the 14 ft John boat my Dad left to me a couple of years ago.

Yes I've had some wild nights. I actually have a small 12 foot row boat. So I've never went for a midnight december swim. Most of that river along Map Rock Road is pretty shallow and you can get to a few of the islands with a pair of chest waders. But you gotta watch the water levels it can fluctuate pretty dramatically from day to day. Wind is my biggest problem. Hard to control a boat in the strong wind.

Sounds like allot of fun to me cjohnson1178. Im to far north to go that far thoe. Cant seem to find any coon around here rite now. Must be hold up because of the weather.

make sure they're healthy by keeping in a pen for a while and observe them. feed them well and when you release them, they'll live on their fat until they learn they way around.
