Why restrict hours? Just takes half your season away. And what about if it takes more than daylight to catch it??? I can tell you a hunter didn't make those rules.

I agree, in Oregon Sept. - the end of Nov. is legal pursuit season. You can do everything but carry a gun and shoot the animal. Dec. 1st is kill season same regs but you can carry a gun and harvest.

This is a rugged subject. Conejos I feel your pain but it will work out. Shadowhunter I think the guy was setting you up, and you are going to be in trouble and he will just laugh and say I never said that. I don't know about other states but this whole deal is tightening up big time and with the drug connections out there other agencies are also becoming involved. If you must, leave the dogs the gun and the lights at home and drive around with the headlights because they can't touch you, but if they suspect you have Bubba waiting over the hill with a pack of dogs and a light and a 30-30 they will probably be knocking on your front door and waiting by the back door. Cougar are classified big game in most states. Move to Texas and get a spotlight and hunt all night on private ground no problem becasue lions are a varmint down there. Those mysterious picked up giant mule deer , and elk skulls that have been turned in and then recorded as lion kills but somehow made it into the book also draw a lot of attention. A lot goes on out there in the dark so best keep it legal.

THERE IS NOTHING AS DANGEROUS AS SINCERE IGNORANCE /MLeonard

Last I heard, it's legal to drive around with your dogs in your vehicle! Doesn't matter what time of day or night and as far as that goes it can be 10 hounds or 10 poodles.
Last I heard, it's legal to carry a gun in your truck!
Last I heard it's legal to carry a light in your truck!
As far as I know there's no season on tracks! Does that mean tracks are PROTECTED OR FAIR GAME YEAR ROUND? Just a thot...
The spotlight law is what will determine if your breaking the law. (no dogs required to break that one)
If you have questions its not real hard to call the guy with jurisdiction over the area and ask (answers will vary with different guys)

I'm pretty sure I still have the "RIGHT" to carry everything required to hunt in my vehicle 24 hrs. a day (The problem comes if you dump the tailgate, start shinin a light and wavin a gun at night!) Course i'm too Lazy to hunt all night anyway. :)

Don't really care if guys want to cut tracks all night, many times (depending on conditions) they will run over one and not see it. Also, they will cut a road only to have a cat cross it later in the morning behind them. Where I do see a problem is these guys will not wait until legal hours to turn out. Happens on the bear pursuits to, I wish I had a dollar for everytime a truckload of dogs drove past our camp in the middle of the night trying to rig a bear. One particular night there were dogs treed from 3 a.m. till daylight less than a half mile below our camp. Not much fun for the guys trying to play by the rules. You might not like the rules, but they are the rules. When the fish and game crack down they do not make distinctions from those who follow the law and those who do not. We all pay the price for the actions of a few...

That's pretty standard for Montana cat hunting, the early bird gets the worm. but there are big groups of lion hunters that are afraid to run a cat by themselves so I wonder what happens when more than one truck finds a track in the group?

I'm not trying to get this thread off topic, but around my area their is a big group of houndsmen that if one finds a track their is soon to be 3 or 4 more trucks pulling up and quite a few houndsmen or groupies I've never seen, or ever heard of running a cat by themselves. So I was just wondering what happens when more than 1 truck cuts a fresh track?

id imagine they either cut loose on the bigger of the two or split up dogs and run both.

when i used to hunt with groups like your talking about, there where multiple times we had 2 races going.

Mike I agree with you, what is snow, and all this jibber jabber about cutting a track in the snow?? I remember the first time I took some of my west Texas hounds to Colorado to hunt it was a "dry" year for them and the guys were all sittin around waiting for snow, not me, we dumped into a nasty looking canyon and two hours later were treed on the south slope. When it finally did snow, they say my hounds ran a track with their head in the air, not to the ground, not so much but I know you get what I am talking about. Oh and we can hunt em at night here, headed to the brush country next Monday to chase some longtails in the nasty prickly pear, no rain having, powder dust oil field country of south Texas......should be fun.
Get the kids out there with you as often as you can, this day and age they can be so influenced by social media it is scary.
