Bob;
I love it when a man can laugh at his own joke.
I have run down a few critters in my day. Retired now, but did see a lot of different dogs in the woods.
I ran Plotts and Walkers, but I have heard so much bragging about how good everyones dog was better than mine.
Now don`t get me wrong, Walkers do make fine dogs. I had a lot friends with every breed you can think of, and to here them tell it they could catch everything in the woods.
We always seemed to get together at the water races, with them telling me they caught a couple bears this year.
i just looked at my partner and smiled. We new with our shit potlickers that we must be doing something right catching 20-40 bears a year.
Our junk yard dogs had no papers, mostly someones coon hound that we bought cheap.
Any dog can be made into someones hunting dog, some just do it better and are much better looking.
Always a Walker Man, but I do love them Plotts

Re: training bear dogs
keep doing what youre doing. dont worry about training him...if hes gonna make ya a good bear dog, just take him hunting and he will unfold in front of ur eyes. dont get caught up on the training part. keep hunting him. if you are already catching game with him, then he is already trained. keep him in shape. hope this all helps. jmo.
