3 cat weekend

Post by Hipshooter »

Loaded Friday for a weekend bobcat hunt.
Was to be 2 in snow where we were going, but none showed.
we casted and roaded all day on big big Gov land.
Did not get a bark, guess cats were not walking.
Drove 300 miles south to s/w Okla.
Sat morning 1 1/2 hour race, got out run.
Had another 1 1/2 hour race, treed him.
Had 2 more long races, cats gave us the slip again.
Sunday had 2 long races caught both.
We got into some kittens later in 6 foot johnson grass, ran for 3 hours, never did get one treed.
Johnson grass is like Sudan grass but grows wild, but that is where the cats stay.
Monday came back north 100 mile, casted, but the older dogs were about pooped out.
Had a little trash race, with 2 pups, but shocker stopped that. We left
all cats in tree to tun another day.
Weather was perfect all weekend, small rain had fallen .
Got home Mon night safe & sound.

Dan,
My hunting partner is a gun nut, and a very good marksman.
He always keeps his high dollar gun & high dollar scope handy.
After we got done hunting friday evening & driving south we came on some snow.
My buddy says I will bet u $25.00 that I will kill a coyote or pig before dark. This was about 40 min before dark. I said ok bet is on. This is pig country & i thought we would see some, but we didn,t. This is open flat country & u can see for mile or two. This guy can hit anything, running, flying or setting, he don,t miss. So I was $25.00 up on him. U got to let me get even tomarrow, he said , I said ok. Sat we seen no coyotes or pigs all day & in high population pig country. I finally said we will add crows to the list. I was up $50.00 Sat night. Sun morning we hadn,t drove 3 mile & coyote was not 50 feet from road, bang, dead coyote, so I was only up $25.00. I told my other buddys that he killed a sick mangy coyote in the bar ditch for a good laugh, but the coyote was very healthy.
Never seen anything the rest of that day, Did see some crows, but they were to cagey to get on. Monday we seen nothing, so now we have a running bet any time we hunt togeather. I thought in that pig country I would get behind, but I didn,t
