Too many pups

Post by Hagerman »

I have a litter of 14 pups and I know I have seen this topic before, but how many cc's of goat milk per newborn every 2 - 4 hours?
Oiler coach Bum Phillips when asked why he takes his wife on all the road trips.

Not sure if it's true, just funnier than hell. A been there done that moment.

Nothing is wrong with her, she's a good young dog and doing very well with her first litter, just a few too many pups.
I have prepped her with her feed getting ready for this but I would like to find the information regarding tube feeding the pups to keep her in shape and save as many pups as possible.

You are correct, that is too many pups to expect the mother to produce enough milk for...... You are doing the correct thing by researching this......

Sorry, never had pups, so I`m nmot sure how many cc`s each pup would need. You should be able to buy the proper milk replacement formula from the vet. Not sure about goats milk. P
Dehydration is a real threat to the young pups, as is hypothermia from not being able to get close enough to the mothers body heat. Do you have a heat source for the pups too?

Spokerider, The house is the heat source..the bath tub is the whelpinig box.
Being as I have no wife to argue with, I do what I please.
I have used goats milk for everything from pups, cats, bobcats etc. I don't care for it myself, but it is better than regular milk replacement and does not give them the scours. I believe that I have worked out the amount to give. When they can't take anymore and their bellies look like they swallowed a golf ball.
It's been in the mid 60's to 70's here during the day. A bit warmer here than there I imagine.
Thankyou.

I don’t know if this helps as the pups are older now but depending on the calorie content of the milk you are feeding. I feed a pup around 70 ml per pound per day broke down every 2-4 hrs.

So if your pups are about 3 weeks old then they should need about 80 ml a day broke up 4 ways…

Good luck..
