I wouldnt begin to know how to go about doing it but i completely agree. I was talking with an old time hound hunter from new mexico a little while back and we got to talking about oregon and our hunting laws and what not. He told me the same thing. That its just going to get worse and worse and we pull our heads out of our a** and fire odfw. They are a state agency and work for us. We can't let them bully us around anymore! How ever and what ever it takes to do this...count me in!

I'm personally working right now to get this on the ballot:

Let's enact a change to the state constitution as follows:

Text of Section XX:
Rights of Citizens to Hunt and Fish
A. All citizens of Oregon have the right to hunt, fish, trap, and otherwise take, gather, or utilize wildlife, in accordance with regulations, seasons, limits, and methods established by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
B. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife shall have sole authority to establish regulations, seasons, limits, and methods by which the taking of wildlife shall be considered to be lawful.
C. Neither the Legislature, nor the people by initiative or referendum, shall have the authority to enact laws, regulations, seasons, limits, or methods by which the taking of wildlife shall be regulated.
D. The enumeration in the Constitution of the aforementioned rights of citizens shall not be construed to deny or disparage other rights granted by this Constitution or retained by the citizens of Oregon.

this is a great thought that I am sure has a large support base the trick would be to get it written and gone over with a magnifying glass by a legal group then get it attached to a bill that is likely to have a large public support. this is how most laws that the populace in large don't wholly agree with in the past have been slipped in on us. support from the larger agricultural organizations, gun clubs, hunting groups would be a great place to start. if the law could read the use of hunting as a wildlife control be implemented by game and fish before or as the only legal means of wildlife reduction and hunting defined in later paragraphs to include unleashed dogs for the pursuit and capture of game it might help. as much as I realize gov. hunters have a place they should be a last resort in my opinion. good luck and I hope you get the support you need

The problem is you have to many spineless politicians in office that worry more about their precious special interest goups instead of making informed decisions, that are based solely on feelings rather than on statistics and and proven studies. I would like to see it changed so that the department of fish and game is the sole entity to change and establish rules and laws affecting our right to hunt, pursue, and conserve our resources. these laws would then be based on scientific study(facts) as opposed to some special interest group that can provide me campaign money and get get me x number of votes next election. Being deployed, it is hard to see what is going on and not be able to help; however when I am back at my home station you can bet I'll be doing what I can to get what hunting we can back.

right now there are a lot of "conservative style" politicians testing the waters to see what kind of support they can get from the public in these issues so they can build a platform for the next elections if you watch it is obvious that the republicans are really putting out feelers to see which potential candidate the people relate to the best most of them are stepping out making a statement on one of the issues and then seeing what response they get. this is a real good time to get vocal and do it in a thought out intelligent way in support of our rights and our sports

One of the biggest faults I see that have happened to a lot of State Govtmints is the fact that several Fish and Game Dept's that had operated on their own through license sales thus setting up their own budgets .Litterly have been ROBBED by their State Legislature .The classic example I am most familar with is Maine . Once they started to show a SURPLUS and prioritize their BUDGET Plans for further additions to build new fish hatcheries ,Hunting oppurtunities. more wardens , better communications and field equipment . Which to me was a very good idea .These BOZO's in govt decided any agency that showed a surplus was EVIL. Along with the LIBERALS and ANTI's just another way to put another nail in the coffin of outdoorsman. These JEMUCKS could NOT run a private business if their lives depended on it.So now we have it that ALL F and G INCOME goes into the GENERAL FUND of the state . Leaving us Hounders ,Hunters ,Fishers, Trappers with SQUAT .Fast forward a few years to today and most all states are Practiculary BROKE if not so. These Liberals and Anti's are not just ruining our outdoor endeavors they are also DESTROYING our Country. Their MANTRA being if you want to PLAY you must PAY :(

You western guys look at Montana . This fall I am Taking myself my son .and grandson elk and deer hunting in Montana. The FREAKING license costs are going to be over $3,600 .00 before Transportation ,outfitter costs etc: What is UP with that :?: Could pretty much get get a GOOD pack of bear hounds for that price. Before you know it the FEDS will be looking for a piece of the pie. Time to vote these bastards OUT :agmnt

If you want to get off your butt and do something email Jess Messner [jess.messner.ppx4@statefarm.com]. He’s put a lot of his own time and money into getting a hound hunting initiative on the 2012 Oregon ballot. The Secretary of State has given us a really crappy ballot title and summary, so I doubt it’ll pass. But Jess is interested in my "Right to Hunt & Fish" proposal (which would cancel the 1994 law and leave hound hunting for lion and bear up to ODWF), and he may try to get that on the Oregon ballot. It takes about $1500 to get something that far. Either help with dollars, help with gathering support, or just plain encouragement would go a long way toward getting him energized and doing hound hunters some good.

So far the OHA and OUSDA have been notified about his efforts, but we’ve seen no response. It gets lonely out here fighting the liberal politicians just to get a fair shake for sportsmen.

I really don’t know. I’ve emailed them a couple of times about it. Haven’t gotten a response. Maybe those email addresses are obsolete. Maybe a SPAM filter ate my messages. Maybe they are really busy with other stuff. Life does get in the way sometimes. I am hoping to get them involved. I probably should call on the phone. We need the support of the hunting community, including OHA too.

The biggest thing now days are rallys, thats what EVERY campaign or "party" does in order to get media attention and " be heard".

You know I get a real big riot out of all these Anti groups ranging from PETA to the rest of those ANTI-fur-hunting-tree destroying-yada-yada-yada groups.
If they are SOOOOOOO worried about what we're doing as hunters (though its called balancing the eco-system and a circle of life) then why arent they living with the animals? I don't mean build a nice house in the woods, because "that would be displacing wildlife" But live in as natural of a state as they can "with" the animals?
I mean , come on. Every person has contributed to killing or displacing wildlife in some shape or form, I mean where do they think all the materials they live out of come from?
It ALL goes back to wildlife somewhere, yet I don't see them running around NAKED , living in the woods?

They are all a bunch of f'ing Hyprocrits, thats what they are. They need to eat their own words. They wouldn't be so apt to put us down if we shot a mountain lion that just started to pummel their a$$ and we saved their life now would they? :x

in washington there are 1 or 2 clubs that are going under because nobody will step up. In my years of hounding nobody goes to events to help raise money for the sport we all love, the only hypocrites are the people that do nothing but sit on a computer and complain I don't wanna #### anybody off. if people are serious they need to join a club go to the water races an field trials and help raise money. so we have a foot to stand on if we wanna get a ballot up and going. and money in the bank to help preserve our rights.
Work to live, live to hunt!

It would be great and I have been saying for years that if all sportsmen would come together we would be unstoppable. But the cold hard facts are that it will not happen we cant even get houndmen to come together for a fight. I hear all the time about hound guys bagging on deer hunters, trappers mad at bird dog guys, hound guys mad at trappers, fly fishermen about other fishermen, and the list goes on and on.
The only way we could make this work is to get houndsmen together form a national club then as one unite with the other outdoor clubs like the WTF, RMEF and so on. But as much as I hate to say it we all know its a pipe dream. We all know how hard it is to even have 25-30 members of some small local club come together, let alone a state or a country.
