No bears or big cats in North Texas
Hello all! I'm Mark and I hunt cur dogs. I live in North and Southeast Texas, and hunt over about half the state. I have a breeding pair of black mouth curs: Red and Molly. Red I got from a colleague in Houston. Red is 65 lbs. I got Molly from a breeder in Alto, Tx when she was a year old. My first liter was a singleton female, Uno. She's not yet a year old and weighs 65 lbs. I got a second litter in October. Four boys and a girl. I'll keep 3 boys: Swimmer, Camp and Blackie. Lula is a 40-lb cur dog that looks like a Lacy, but a non-conformal one. I got her as a pup from the Beaumont City pound. She'll chase anything and has been bitten by coyotes, hogs and poisonous snakes. She could find a rat 50 ft away or squirrel in a tree 200 yrds away, and everyone within a mile radius would know about it. She'll hunt way out in front of me, 1 or 2 miles, and we've been separated several times. She can follow a scent trail like a machine, but barking the entire time. And if the game is caught or shut down, her mouth continues wide open. She bites and barks at the same time. Lula believes that every human loves her and would run right up to anyone. I hate her and I love her. Red hunts 2 or 3 hundred yards in front of me. He does not bark unless something stops and he is looking at it. If he trees something, he does not bark. He just tries to jump up into the tree. I know when he senses game from his tail. He has caught on to the teamwork and does not run off to hunt on his own. When he bites, he holds and shakes. He can ruin a ham or shoulder in seconds. Red would not go up to another human for anything. I can't board him, and vets have a tough time with him.

What line are your Blackmouth's? I have a 3 year old male Carnathan, and 2 young hound's.

Red is out of Alabama Red stock, Molly is out of the Weatherfords Ben line. Molly came out of woods dog stock near Alto, Tx. Molly has larger feet and longer hair than Red. Her bone structure is larger, but Red is 15 lbs heavier and much more muscular. Molly has a harp harp bark, which is pleasant. Red's is very gutteral. Molly loves to swim and goes in after beavers and nutrina. She's been a great mom. Red does not care for children and is a one person dog. The first time I had Molly around children was when we walked out of an exam room and into a waiting room. There were two tots there and she started licking their faces. Red has the dominate genes. Out of 6 pups, 1, a male, looks like her. The color, larger bone structure, thicker hair, larger feet and softer bark are all there. Red and Molly both hunt close by and are silent on track.
What do your dogs hunt?
