Rock pile bobcat

Post by Marshall »

Well lastnight around 10:30 i was getting ready to go to bed when a friend called me and said he had found a nice tom track, and after talkin it over for a minute i decided i would load the trashers and see if we could go get it done. My buddy has some dogs that are coming on strong but have not hunted alot at night and he was having a bit of a time gettin this cat lined out. My dogs hunt alot at night and most of the time his do too but these dogs that he has now are new and havent been out at night a whole lot yet. So anyway we get to where his dogs had made a lose and walked my mitsy and huck dogs out on the track, it had a little snow in it and you could tell that the dogs were gonna have a rough go at it. We walked with the dogs for 30 min or more and finially they got to where they could run it without making a lose every 100ft. The dogs trailed it close to the highway and i pulled my dogs off of it because the main highway was just too close for me. My buddy unloaded his dogs and walked it out with them for a ways and then he called me and said that it had turned and was heading back up the hill, so i let my two dogs back out and he called them up to him and the race was on! They screamed it up and over the hill. I made it up to where they were and my buddy said that they were heading back toward that road that i had picked them up off of so i turned around and made it back down there just in time. I must have drove up at just the right moment and turned the cat because all four of the dogs came within 10 ft of my truck and i got to see them running it at a dead sprint like they were sight racing it. They blew out of there and went back over the hill to where they had just came from and all hell broke lose. My buddy and i made it where they had it in the rocks and you cold hear him growling at the dogs. I told my buddy that we needed to get mitsy out of there because she is gonna fight it for sure. Well we finially were able to get all of the dogs out and when mitsy came out she was covered in blood and it wasnt the cats. I looked her over real good and she has puncture wounds all over her head and 4 claw marks right beteween her eyes all the way down to her nose that go down to the bone. She has a 1 in. or so cut on her neck and it is a miracle that she didnt lose a eye. The cat was wedged in there so that the dogs could try and get close but they couldnt get at the cat but it sure could get them. It was a fun night and my dogs did great, my 8 month old even lead the race for awhile and i couldnt be more happy! My dogs did over a mile of cold trailing in the dark and my pup contributed just as much as mitsy did, it took about 3 hours to get that track warmed up but once they did they made short work of it. Hope you like the pics and sorry i didnt get more....... It was kinda hectic lol

If you look on the rocks above and a bit to the right of the cat you can see some of mitsy's blood and fat i believe on the rock. She got pretty tore up

He is alive in these pics but had his eyes closed because of my flashlight.

My huck dog is in behind of all of these dogs, mitsy is the one with the tore up face in the middle, and look she is growlin and wants back in there. You cant fix stupid :D

Good work Marshall, sounds like they are all doing good! Thats what happened with one of the last ones I got. Ended up shooting it 4 times in the tree till it came out with a .22, came out alive as hell! Was running everywhere so I told my dad to turn loose my older Cameron female to track it with all the down fall. Well I kept getting within about 5yds and it would run. Finally ended up finding it and it went into a hollowed out tree, dogs went into under the ground about 20yds and finally I could find where they were beneath my feet and Belle had ahold of that cat and was fighting it, when I finally punched a hole through the brush and log I looked in there and it was on her face, shot it that way again, damn thing was still alive and biting the end of my barrel but died pretty quick after about 10 seconds. Only had a big enough hole to pull that bobber out and barely pull my dog out. We dont have the rock piles nearly as much as you guys do though.
