Need some info on bobcat hunting.

Post by hndhunter »

I've got two redbone hounds that get the job done on mountian lions however have never turned loose on bobcats. Ceder is 6, real mouthy, works the track I'd say on the slower side until she gets close enough to start air scenting it. Daisy is a year and half old, pretty much leads all the races anymore. Both are pulling tree real well. Whats my best odds of catching a bobcat? Putting just one dog on the track? Pick and choose the terrain you hunt in? Deeper snow? If anyone has any suggestions that may keep me from having some long days I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Let your colder nose dog work it alone til its hot or jumped (makes it easier for you to help follow and the dog have no distractions). You probably will have to help them out a few times... road or creeks or bluffs or brush piles... etc once they have it pretty hot then its on them to tree it. I'm no expert just my observations.

Hey thanks for the info, definetly will come in handy. Still wondering if you have good snow and decent dogs should alot of bobcats still give you the slip? And if you get a runner do they tipicaly just keep runnin or eventually hold up somewhere? One last question, do you usually have better luck in the river and creek beds runnin them or up in the hills. Thanks
