what is your favorite critter to run?

Post by houndcrazy93 »

Hey everyone I was wonderin what you all thought was the funnest crtter to run. And why you like to run it. To me it would be a bear. I don't know what it is. Probally the intesity of it when you walk in to a bay up. Or hearing the grunts of the bear. Also it gets me in shape as well as the hounds. From hiking all over in some rugged terrain. So fill me in on your opinions of what u like to run and why. Thanks everyone

That little critter with a bobtail. I really like listening to the dogs work out a bobber. Being able to hunt them in many different terrain style from the rimrocks to the high mountain thickets, you can find um anywhere.

I would say a bobcat race is my favorite.. I think I get pleasure out of torture. Although I like walking into a Lion tree the best mostly because I almost know I'm going to get to see it!!

its funny i was thinking about it and 25 years ago it was lions, loved the cats easy to catch and liked the snow! 15 years ago it was bobcats finally got a decent dog and like to challenge myself! The last 4 years its bears because its usually nice weather, you can hunt with as many dogs as you want and usually doesn't take 6 hours driving roads to get a race!lol Its the three stages of sportsmen first stage is the kill, the second is the trophy stage and the third is enjoyment of the outdoors. I like hound hunting cause it can be a social sport, you can interact with others during the whole hunt, unlike most others you need not be quiet or stay in one place, maybe i have ADD!

I like to run bear cause things can get kind of wild. I like to run fox just as much. Used to have some good times sitting around a fire with friends listening to the dogs run a fast old grey.

fox and bobs. I like that i can pretty much stand in one spot and listen to the whole race. i like when they cross the road right in front of you a few times and you actually get to see part of the race. also, dont have to worry bout my dogs gettin killed

I've got a couple of potlickers, so I'm happiest with bear. The dogs have no trouble finding them. You need dogs with a few brains and some grit not to get killed, but you don't need a brilliant dog to follow bear scent. And there's something about that rush of standing under something you know could kill you but worrying about the hounds more than yourself. Plus its not hard to find a bear around here and the dogs get an intensity of sound that they just don't have on anything else near me...

I cant pick just one bear, coon, bobcat are all just as much fun. If you got the spots to really put the coon up, treeing 30-40 or more a night can be lots of fun. Had some great and wild times with bear the last 2 or 3 yrs. This yr is the first for bobcat really hunting them and loving it. So would have to say its a 3 way tie for me.

Fisher there tough as nails, can run like the wind, tough to tree (at night) and if caught on the ground it is a no holds barred knock down drag out battle.

My dogs wont run a fisher but im pretty sure if they did and caught it they would make quick work of it. dont think it would be much of a battle.
