Greetings from Idaho

Post by idahohunter »

My name is Nick and I am a new poster on this site. I have been checking out these boards for a while sort of researching and have learned a lot.

I'm not a houndsman yet. I do not have a hound and am here to learn more about hounds and lion hunting with them. After getting a Brittany a year ago and putting alot of time into her I have a fully broke bird dog that I am proud to call my own. I love nothing more than walking up behind her quivering body and jumping a covey of Chukars that she has pinned. But, I am really impressed with a dog that can put a mountain lion in a tree. I love watching a dog do what it was bred to do.

I am currently looking for a hound. I am willing to put the work and time into a pup, but would prefer to get a dog that already has experience on lions and going from there.

I have many questions.

Just picked up my hounds. I was able to get a 4 year old Walker male named Okey and a 5 month old Bluetick female named Gator. Apparently the Walker is a good bear dog but I'll just have to see. A man in western Idaho was dumping his pack due to family problems and was able to get them for free. I can't complain about the price. I happened to be the first to call and asked him which one his lead dog was. That's the one I got. I feel pretty lucky.

Looking forward to getting out and trying to catch something and training up this little pup. Luckily my wife likes them both...I think she likes them more than my 1 yr old Brittany that will never calm down no matter how many hours she spends in the Chukar hills.
