Well good luck guys. This is a tough sport and takes a lot of time in the woods to have good dogs. I suggest joining the Vt bearhound association. I am on the board of directors and we do a lot of good for this state and group of bear hunters. PM me for info how to join.

I also live up in northern VT. My boys have been begging for some hounds for the past year so about 3 months ago I picked up 2 blues and we have been working them quite often. They do real well picking up the sent of a bear hide that I have been dragging and hanging in a tree. They will stay at the tree until i pull them off or take down the hide. The real test will come in a few weeks when they can come off the leash. If any one can offer any help or give some pointers to someone new to the sport please do.

What town are you from asnow? I suggest with new hounds make 100% sure its a bear track. You don't want to start them out on trash.

Hi Jason, I live in Sheldon. I guess my next challenge is finding a bear track. I know of some areas in VT that hold some decent bear. I still need to set up or purchase a dog box for the truck. I won't know if either of these dogs will strike from the truck until I come accross a track. I do have a training collar if they do pick up junk. My boys and I are excited to get out in the woods in another week and really start to work the dogs.
