Has anyone sugcessfully treated one at home? And any tips? I drained it yesterday and its full again this morning...
Did a search on lion and see that the recomended thing is to put in something to keep it draining.

Re: Hemeatoma on dogs ear
New pup was playing with older dog and bit abit harder than he should have on his ear... Didn't break the skin.
Its not causing him to shake his head but is tender to the touch. I didn't make a big cut to drain it, just a small poke. From what I am reading it has to keep draining to have a chance at healing better.

go down to circle k and get one of those coffee stir straws and then make sure you wipe it down with alcohol real good then cut off about a 2-3 inch piece and insert into the hole you poked. Secure near the end with a piece of tape or something. The real challenge is getting the pup to leave it alone long enough.
Another thing I have done is make about a 1/4 inch incission and drain really well then disenfected it with peroxide really good and then put some of that benzo-iodine on and around it.
got a grumy old dog that bites my youngsters ears. lol
Hope that helps

I have fixed two of these all you have to do is cut ear clean it out really well. then find the outer edge of the hemeatoma and stitch around it. By stitching it, it will be force to start growing back together. Should be able to pull stitches in about a weak
Re: Hemeatoma on dogs ear
on the larger ones stitching in the CENTER is a good idea to help it close. if a large pocket develops it wont have enough pressure to stay drained and when it does eventual dry up it'll have a separation between tissue and skin. a single through and through stitch usually does the job unless it is really big.
