I hunt both, but seems like the females are easier to train, more consistent and just all around better dogs. I've can only think of one super good male dog I have owned.
Re: males or females ?
If it catches i dont care what it is
They both have there down falls i think a female listens a little better and i think a male has a little more drive. My opinion is though if you catch and end up with a ground fight i'd be puttin my money on a male
Re: males or females ?
I hunt both and have had great females and great males. The only problem I have with males is they have to sniff butt and pizz on everything and a female is ready to go to work when turned loose. But as far as fights...I don't tolerate fighting at all. Culled several for it.

All males for the past 12 years. All my males live in one large one acre run all the time together. Never have any fights. Keep the females away and raise them together and you won't have any problems.

I hunt both but like the females better. Have you ever seen a bitch fight? They will slap, pull hair and call names, lol.
The downfall is have to leave them at home when in heat or having pups.

That got me laughin' . I have one male . I love the ladies for sure . Though I do have an old redbone female that I'm sure is playing for the other team .

I run about half and half. my females are the brains and the males are the balls! that's why they're a pack animal. females definatly easier, exept for coming in heat. when you do get a solid male, he is s o l i d.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.
Re: males or females ?
I have had some out standing females but seems like there always in heat when u want to hunt them...the males you can hunt anytime... i have seen a lot of pups that learn really fast being hunted with there mother...personaly sence I hunt what I raise I keep 3-4 females to hunt and breed the rest males. I've had and do have females that are just as gritty as any male dog.
IF IT SQUATS TO PEE, LET IT BE....

Re: males or females ?
I've got two males and two females right now. One B&T male and a walker female and two of her pups, one male, one female. I use exactly the opposite theory that Dean uses. Mine are all kept together in various combinations. The pups stay together and the other male and female are seperate right now. Last week the older female was in with the male pup and the other two were seperate. Nest week the two males will be together and the circle goes round and round. They all know that I'm the Alpha and they don't question it.
It seems like I've always been told that females listen better and start earlier. That's absolutely not true with my experience. All my dogs pretty much listen the same. They all could handle better, but we are working on it. Knocking on wood, I havn't had any issues running them together.

I run hermaphrodites.
They seem to do ok.
I think this is one of those topics thats been covered umpteen billion times and nobody agrees on it which is because there is no "rule."
How many supposed top notch males do you see compared to females ? And how many of each produce equivalent of what they are or better ?
That last question should be the real deciding factor on how great the dog is if you want to go anywhere with it.
