If Bigfoot lives and hunts in those kind of conditions, then one would logically conclude that looking for a dog that can reliably catch cat in those conditions is exactly what he should be doing.

I would say somebody has this dog. If this dog caught a few cat it would be by accident.
But you can,t find him.
And if u did, money would not buy him
And his pups would probably be worthless

my strike dog will strike on bobcats in the desert off the hood all night long...its the catching part she has trouble with....

what due you mean by consistently like 20 a sesson or every time you go out you put them up we catch them here but not every day not every time .but we due put them up but we also have a river that i try to start them off of and then they leave in a hurry

I think what you are asking for makes no sense. You were specific as to "a strain" that can "consistently" produce bobcats in "dry, cold, windy, sandy, red clay,bare rock, no grass, dusty, sage".
I have seen individual dogs tree cats in very bad dead of summer, dry, dusty, conditions, where all the other good dogs never knew a cat was in the area, and do it with some regularity but never consistently. Don't now have, and haven't hunted with such a dog is several years that can do this with any regularity.
But add to that wind, no grass, etc, etc, and with the amount of scent a cat leaves there will not be enough for any dog to put enough pressure on them to "consistently" put them up. A really good winding dog with a lot going on upstairs (that special one) might get some pop ups so if you are in thick cat country it might be enough to look good, but that isn't consistent. But you want a whole strain of such a dog.
I don't think it is out there, but I am waiting for the guy who claims to have just what you specify.

I like foxcat's honesty in not claiming strikes as catches, clearly he didn't learn this from Ike.

If you think your specification is tough, you ought to have seen the one I had for my woman. Such a woman may be out there somewhere, just maybe (to start with a supermodel, with a beautiful personality, who would love a houndsman just for being myself). But if there is one somewhere, anywhere, I absolutely know there isn't a whole strain of them. Thankfully my wonderful wife doesn't expect me to to meet her ideals either.

there is a fella down in the ca desert country named BILL young that had the type of dogs you are looking for dont know if he is still hunting them or not but I have heard his boy Bruce is still hunting around tehatchipee not sure if I spelled that correct or not but those dog consistantly got it done on fox and cat in that dry rocky country

You know reading this I'm wondering if maybe the right houndsman with the right hunting area might be able to pull off something that made it look like his "line" of dogs could consistantly do this, but I'd guess that if you took his dogs home you might not get the same result. Because, its not like you just drive around and wait for a strike, dump the dogs and grab your riffle. Just a thought.

You know i have always wondered if someone was working on some dogs that could get it done in the desert. I live on the edge of the desert but still in the timber and i can end up out that way in no time flat and i would love to catch those cats out there. I am sure that there are guys out there that can get it done. Hell just because he/she is not on this site does not mean that they are not alive. I know the gov hunter from around here typically does most of his work in the sage and has to break his dogs off of the bobs and bays em up more then he would like. I think if a guy was hunting the desert consistantly then his dogs would get used to the conditions and put up more cats then if i just happened to head out there every other month. I look at it this way. If there are guys doing it in the south with cold nosed track style dogs for lion and can grub out a 2 day old track then why couldnt those dogs grub out a 8 hour old bob track. You would think that there would be a equal amount of scent from that 2 day old lion and that 8 hr old bob. You may only be able to move the hotter tracks but hey its still gonna make the dogs work. Maybe im crazy but it makes sense in my hallow head.
