Bill Young is the first guy who came to mind,he currently runs the same type of bred dogs as foxhunter and some other fellas I know very well.
Bigfoot,I'd look really serious at the dogs down in Texas from some of them guys who cartch 150+ bobs a year in similar conditions. As for the coast dogs as they're refered to--I'd put'em up against any dogs in the country, once they're acclaimated or raised in those conditions.
But,like you,I'm allways looking for something better or at least be open enough minded to look in another direction,to improve my pack, for better success.

I've heard tell from more than one cat hunter about Bill Young and what he called his "chocolate dogs". Very reliable sources, and even a friend who hunted with and purchased a dog from Bill, if memory serves correct. He has been a cold trail in my cat hunting research, that I've yet to get freshened up. :) I'd be interested in learning more about his strain, and perhaps seeing how they'd adapt to the higher elevations and timbered country I hunt. Interesting for sure! j

I haven't personally seen a strain of hounds that all catch bobcat in the desert. there are dogs doing it. it seems to me that its a unusual mixture of traits that produce this type of dog. they must be cold nosed and determined enough to strike a track and work it up then move it with enough experience and intelligence to force the cat up. this can turn into a long day of trailing. it's either the first three quarters or last quarter thats is missing in most dogs. of course I could be wrong about the whole thing

I have to chime in on this I have been running the same strain for alot of years and have had great success in snow conditions and have sent them all over the country and they have done well and I have also talked with alot of cat hunters from just about everywhere you can imagine and they are looking for that GOLDEN strain you are talking about and it is yet to be found and in my opinion never will! Yes there are some dogs out there that are truely unbelievable on bobcats but to catch consistantly in the conditions you are talking I dont believe can be done on a consistant basis and when I say this I am talking 85 to 90 cats out of 100. Yes a person gets LUCKY every once in awhile and catches 8 out of 10 and just when you think you cant miss, a bobcat hands you your a$$ and you come back to the real world if there was a strain out there that could do this in the conditions you are talking everyone would have one as if they can catch consistant in dry ground like you are talking they could catch any where they were put down on a track. I am not tring to ruffle any feathers just tell what i have experianced over the years and that is a bobcat is the toughest of all things to put up consistantly with a hound in any condition anywhere! later, Andy

I have hunted with all thoughs hunters when i was kid your best bet is to call Mr. juinor kreger, he used to be my old huntin buddy last time i heard he still had the chocolate colored dogs, him and bill young pretty much have the same strain off dogs. I know the dogs kreger had would run some of the meaniest country above in sespe above fillmore and could run fox and bobcats all night long. Alot of hunters wouldnt even turn there dogs loose up there cause of the tight brush country, I do believe that they all had some trigg in them from way back. If u need his number pm me i can get it and he will fill you in what are in the dogs. Or try gettin ahold of tri-county houndsmen assic. she will have his number to

I don't live in the desert but I do travel there and hunt at times. I don't claim to have the kind of dogs your looking for but mine will consistently catch most of the cats they jump in those conditions (except high wind in dry open ground) my problem is that I trail a tremendous amount of tracks that just peter out for the number that the dogs get jumped. Also in some desert country you will catch most of your cats in holes, so you may not get the cat, but the dogs did their job and caught it.

I've not met the man but from what I here Dewy Walton out of the Eugene Or. area has the dogs you are looking for, I've been told that they are a cross out of Sonny Turners Triggs and some old Finley River dogs and and they can flat out get it done.
