Cant wait for spring bear!!!

Post by ferjr »

My two pups, Jake and Elwood just turned 9 months old. took them to the vet last week for a check up and rabbie shots, they are getting huge, Jake weighs 68lbs and Elwood was 73lbs, they are not fat just really big hounds, we have been roading them quite a bit and believe it or not, Elwood is not only my biggest hound he is the second fastest in the pack and is only 9 months old. I will have to post some updated photos. I only hunted cats one day this year but my dad has took the hounds out a few times while I was at work, he treed 3 bobcats and two mt. lions, the only time I went was christmas day, we ended up stuck all day, I really lost interest in the cats quick, but bear season is just arround the corner and cant wait to see my pups in action. :beer

I feel your pain! It is really hard to have much interest in the cats without having much action. Also wish they would let us run bears through october also, such nice hunting weather and nothing to do but hunt deer, and that hunt dont usually last long !!lol

watched a buddys home made bear hunting video and it was unreal the only down side to it was it totally ruined the rest of the cat season for me hahaha. Ive been checking on the bear post the last while and havent seen much untill your post Ferjr and it got me right reved up for bear season, I have a b&t pup that was 6 months old last spring that i was dumping in with the big dogs he would only go a few hundred yardas then come back to the road but on the 3rd time i dumped him in he bayed up on a nice brown bear and treed like a bugger when the bear went up i was real happy but decided to let him get some age first before putting him in again. so now I cant wait! for spring bear, thanks for the post

When does your spring season start? I cant wait to see how my pups are going to do on bear. They do great on drags, I have been doing drags with them since the day I brought them home at 11 weeks old. My dad has been roading them 8-10 miles a day while I am at work, they are deffinitely ready. Good luck with your pup, let me know how it does.

our season goes from april 1 till the end of june but its pretty hard to find a bear before the last week in april also have 1 or 2 trash races in the first 3 weeks of april hahaha dogs are just to worked up ready to go hahaha i cant wait for the season to start.I have been running cats steady so they are in alright shape now nothing gets a dog inshape better then bear hunting! but i road them everyday as soon as cat seasons over i find that if i road them to much they run past the track and race to much which pisses me off so i keep them a little fat now and it seams to work. but i pulled my pup off last year on a good note thinking he was to young, now i get to see what he really is made of. but what part of Idaho are you from have you ever came up to the E.K.T.H.A feild trials near Cranbrook B.C?
