Marking tracks?

Yeah man i agree with most the people on here, I hunt lions in Montana and if your not there with your dogs ready to roll at light the track is fair game. If there is one thing i have learned or been taught about lion hunting is that it is hard to trust anyone and it is never fair or ever will be! Thats why we do it for the competition and for the love of the hounds!!!!!!!!

Hunt the dirt you will not have to mark tracks, or have to wait for it to snow to find a track. I will guarantee that you will have the hills to yourself. Those same lions that walk those roads and cross those roads will do the same thing with or with out snow. If your looking for a big tom look for a big tom! If you want to tree lions put down on every track you cut. If you're by yourself and cut a track that your going to run and think it might cross a road again then put the hounds on it and beat foot around to the road you think it might cross and wait for them to come through. If someone else has shortened the track up ahead of you then wait for your hounds to come through and catch them up. If some dumb a$$ puts in behind you pull them gloves off that you were going to leave to mark that track and stomp a hole in him.

claiming the track is like claiming the animal before it is caught .whats next leaving your underwear where you get a rig strike . anti hunters could run around doing this to keep us from hunting .there should be some rule for the second person who wants to run the track to be able to do so without problems if your gonna go around marking tracks all over the place.an hour wait for instance . lets not be hoggy . i would never intentionally dump my dogs on a track someone already had dogs on , but im not gonna stand there with my hands in my pocket either while you figure out what animal you want to run of the dozen different tracks you have hogged up . or maybe go harvest one then exspect to come back and run another of your claimed tracks while i stand there . greed i cannot tolerate.

I will tell you a little something there timothy. It might save you a A$$ kicking! You show up at a mans tree or turn in on a mans tree and he is a foot or a horse back behind his hounds and you walk into his tree ahead of him and thump his catch. You had better have a good dental plan! Hell fire man what kind of hunter are you? Have you ever heard of ethics. I would bet if you walked up on and elk some one else killed and had marked so to come back with horses to retrieve it. you would tag it and claim it as your own. I can't believe some of the crap that folks say on this site!

I am always amazed how people take things on this site. I was simple asking how things are done in other parts of the world. Then half the people responding got mad about the way things are done where I live. I didn't make up the "unspoken rules" I just typed them out. And as for what everyone else would do if the lived here, It would make your hunting alot harder if you always had to look over your shoulder. If I get up earlier or work hader it dosn't make me an ass. If I choose to run more then one cat so all of the dogs get a run that day it dosn't make me greedy. And as for sharing around here there is alot of it. I have been invited by or invited perfect strangers to a run. I am not saying that the way we do things is the only way to do it, I am not even saying that is the right way. But that is how it is done around here, and if I started picking up gloves and running stomped out track I'd end up with flat tires and a bloody nose.

How do you guys mark you tracks?We leave the house very early in the morning drive around in the dark till we cut a cat track. We will get out of the truck to take a better look at the track and to leave boot marks there. Now we will ethier check the next road that the cat could of crossed to try and get the freshest start or go look for another cat. Now our boot marks will hold that track for us untill about 11 or 12 that morning if we have not come back to that track by then people will start ignoring the boot marks.

Keyword:"go look for another track"....., "boot marks will hold track for us until 11 or 12"( thats noon boys)....

Also, as far as the "If I choose to run more than one cat so all of the dogs get to run that day it dosn't make me greedy" comment. When you expect to be able to monopolize the hunting by leaving "bootmarks" on other tracks with the intention of keeping other guys from running them while you are off after another cat, it sure doe not make you a "gentleman". If you are refering to running both cats at the same time, this practice is very unsportsmanlike and only reinforces those who would lobby to outlaw the use of GPS and telemetry in hound hunting.

If we are "reserving" A track to run. there is A truck sitting on or awful close to it. Other then that. You can follow me all day long if ya like. Train your dogs to slick tree for all I care. Odds are you ain't catchin up or jumping ahead if you are lookin at A track that my boots have stepped on already. But that choice is your own to make. Would say over all. If there are dog tracks on it then why would anyone drop their box?? Be serious now how dumb are ya??? Or ignorant may be more appropriate. Few hunters or houndsmen would enjoy turning in on top of someone else. I look at alot of tracks. Few of them I choose to run. So just cause you looked doesn't mean you are runnin it.
