Tracking collars

well im just getting started in hound hunting mainly lions and bobcats I want to saving up for tracking collars and was looking at the garmins but they sound like they have there faults looked at telemetry at sounds a little safer looking for thoughts and suggestion on which to get the telemtry is a litlle confusing i have two dogs thanks

you can think you know where they are at and where they are going OR you can know where they are at and which way they are going!!!

Garmins are awesome!!!

if you don't think they will work for you ...a wildlife tracking box and johnsons collars have done it for years

marshall telemetry hands down small light collar and put out a hell of a signal.

Marshall is the top of the line. I use mine with a Wildlife TRX 1000. I have Johnsons, Wildlife, Rats, Quick-Track and Magnum collars... They all sit at home in a bag, unless I need an extra collar or puppy collar... Magnum would be the second best, but it's not even a close comparison.

Marshall... whatever.. overpriced. I never lost signal with Quick track, Wildlife or Johnson. Did I lose my dogs.. hell ya. Every season. Hunting in some rugged country and the Garmins are the answer. Ya you lose signal once in a while but not nearly as the posts on here would have you believe. Magnet roof antenna and your good to go. When you do lose signal you know exactly where the dogs were when they went out of range. Drive or walk in that direction.. The map show the direction they were heading as well. I run DC 30 and have not lost my dogs since. Its safer for the dogs. Your into the tree a lot quicker. The benefits are endless. Also this line of sight thing you hear all the bs about. All I know is my dogs can be in a hole on the other side of a ridge I'm on and I still have signal. Dirty rotten canyons.. still have signal. 8 miles away in ridges and foot hills down in a steep river gulley... stilll had signal. (with the roof magnet)

Everyone has an opinion on tracking systems but if you are using "roof mount" antennas, you are obviously at your truck....missing out on the thrill or the chase. Just my opinion.

lol.... Your not gonna follow a pack of bear dogs for very long on foot. I haven't needed the roof mount for Cougar hunting yet.

Quicktrack 6000 and marshall or quicktrack collars is the only way to go. I had a garmin there nice if you have some dogs that dont get out of the country. When the garmin becomes a true GPS tracking system, meaning I can sit on my couch and track my dogs anywhere in the world Ill get me another one. Another thing I dont like about the garmin is the power button is a push on/off, easy for a dog thief to just turn it off.
