No snow should a guy resort to chasing coons

Post by Eagle Nest »

I was wondering since we can't seem to get any good snow this winter if any body hunts coons in the winter in Montana. I have a pup that needs to see some bobcats or lions but when it doesn't snow theres not much to go hunt.

If you can catch a coon w/o snow. Then why not a cat? J.W.

Why do you need snow to hunt cats?

Hate to jump in on a post but for catching bobcats in the area eagle nest is at isnt going to happen to often without snow unless you happen to free cast and get one jumped. I have been hunting this area for 30 yrs and there isnt a dog out there that can rig one here on a consistant basis not enough roads and no vegatation to hold scent and ussually to dry and cold and ground is for most part frozen making scent conditions poor. Free casting is the normal way we huntem here in Va. Haven't had hardly any snow here since the first of the yr. We have had a few mornings with frost on the ground and that certainly helps trailing conditions.
