Has anyone seen these pictures? I keep getting them in e-mails and was wondering if anybody new the stories and if they are legit. As far as I can tell they are both from Montana but thats about all I can find out. Both these lions look HUGE.
cat pics can be deciving. If I had to guess that cats weight, and it would be only a guess I would say 150-170lbs. Which to me is huge. the problem is that 150 is not a big enough story for most guys so they call it 200 or 220 and then when somebody smacks a nice 140lb tom and tells the truith on it they get laughed at. I have pics of cats that look big and they didn't weigh that much and I also have pics that look small that really had some weight to em. it all comes down to was it a nice mature tom or wasn't it? weight don't really determine that. that's why b&c measures the scull. too many guys skin em out and come back and estimate that they were at least 180lbs. let's dont forget the full or empty belly factor too. a gut full of venison can sure make a 130lb cat look good on the scales. I don't know how many lbs of meat a cat can fit in its gut but I'll bet it's alot.
you get the point, once you pack enough of them out and weigh them you realize how grossley exagerated cat weights are. and you really can't judge weight by looking at a picture.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.
I have not been doing this that long so i like to know all the details, thats how i learn. I do that with what ever i hunt, i am a details guy. But it does look like that cat has rinkles on its face seems like it has to be a fat cat to have that. All the pics on this post look like cats to me, but then again a cat in a tree at the end of a race is a good one to me. Not saying i shoot what ever is in the tree at the end of the race, Its just good to see your dogs make it.
Supposed to be 251 lbs and the skull green scored at 17" , killed south of Helena Mt. by a man who drives a contract snow plow for the State. Don't know if this is true but a big lion just the same.
I can make 'em go and I can make 'em Whoa !
God makes 'em do.
I'll take Jesus, you can have the field
Numbers like that are RIDICULOUS!!!! There prolly has never been a cat killed that weighed 251 pounds with a 17" skull. There was a cat killed last year in the Flathead that weighed 202, and that was the first Montana cat to break the 200 mark in over 20 years. Like Houndnem said also...can't tell much from pictures. If you know what you are doing, you can make small cats look huge and big ones look small. It does look like a very nice cat - don't get me wrong.
Once you go black, you'll never go back! Duncan big game Black and Tans.
Cat dog is right 251 pounds and 17" is almost funny and yes there was a big cat that came out of the helena area, a few nice cats, my buddy shot one of them but i dont ever think there could ever exsisit a cat that is 251 pounds
Work Hard To Hunt Hard
Keep the tradition alive one tree at a time
251? ya right lol the biggest cat i've ever seen was the number four in the world and it was only 220 and i'm still not sure if that is true, my buddy killed a lion that was 187 and it was as big as those cats, i don't know about the skull size, on bear i would lol but sadly not lions. and i agree most people does over judge lion, myself included, two hundred pound lion is like a four hundred point elk, sure they are out there but they arent very common at all. i'm not talking crap on the hunters who caught them, for they are huge lions without a doubt, lol i got showed a pic of a lion that was reported to be over three hundred pounds, i laughed so hard i about pissed my pants, i've never heard of a one hundred percent gurantee that there has been a lion over 220. like i said above my hat goes off to who ever killed those two hogs.
To me it looks like two different cats. There is snow on the branches of the one picture and no snow on the branches in the other. The snow also looks deeper in the one picture compared to the other one. Also one of those cats looks like he has pretty rough ears and the other ones ears seem in good shape.

There is no way this is true. A 17" skull would crush the world record. I would beleive something in the 15" plus range but nowhere near 17". The first cat looks like he has a giant head to go with the rest of his body. I personally think that any cat in the 150lb range is huge and that 200lb plus cats are a myth.
Watch the for new MT state recod on that cat , i think it was little over 190, i think its up in libby at phils shop give him a call and see if its bull shit or not . the guys that got it hunt there a$$ off . alot of people bitch cause they hit every road before they are out bed or in bed .Early bird gets the worm . Good Job Jim
