looking at where the ridge is on the teeth I would say 9 plus years. Hard to tell from a photo when they get that worn down. Definitely a good old lion for sure. :) Congrats :)

This tom was aged by the game and fish at 11 years old. He's missing a canine, one has a huge cavity in it, he was pretty beat up in the face...... I'd say the one in your picture has a lot more wear and tear than mine.

We stuck a tape to him and he's 14 6/16. He's a trophy in my eyes. He had a broken tail and was missing 4-5 inches of his tail. His hide had lots of old scars. He weighed 110 on a scale. I guessed 120-125 before the scale.

Old enough to safely say that you will not catch more than a hand full that old in your entire lion hunting career. I would guess 12. We will see how far off that is when the results come back this summer.

Thats the oldest lion head Ive ever looked at or maybe he just forgot to brush his teeth! :D I know of a head aged by the fish and game at 14 years old and didnt have near this wear. Going off of that I wouldnt be suprized at 16 plus. Sure hope u get to find out!

Those game and fish couldn't age a cat if they raised it from a kitten! I would definately say over 10 years old, but would doubt a cat makes it to 16  that's awesome though. imagine the storys that cat could have told if he could talk. truely an amazing catch!

I AGREE with Houndemen, they haven't a clue. Now then this lion could be quite old but I am not that sure about it. Look at the nipper teeth ( even tho some are missing, common) and the molars and you will see relitively decent condition. Also note absence of extreme discoloration., which is usually quite evident in lions over 8 years old. So then you are looing at the blunted canines and they are well worn and polished and also still effectively provide the bridge to quickly emphisiate normal prey. I have seen numerous lions with canine teeth(fighting teeth) extreemly blunted thru several exposures to steel jawed traps. Also jaw to jaw savage fighting with other males can cause breakage. I am not discounting that this might be Methusalaih but then again other factors indicate and average lion of the older set 8- to possibly 11 years old. In my country that would be a miracle lion! LOL!

The fish and game took a tooth so i will hopefully be able to find out a accurate age. He was pretty beat up. Had a broken tail at the base and had a couple inches missing from the end of his tail.
