holy crap it took me a long time to read that. Basically from what i have understood is they mostly want to raise the harvest number to 2000 from 1700 and start archery bear season the same time as archery deer season. Anyone can correct me if i am wrong i think my little brain is fried from all the reading.

You got it. Those are the only two proposals relating to bear hunting that would impact the 2011-2012 hunting season.

I personally could care less about raising the quota , lets get rid of some of the crap fish and game is pulling / get rid of the one dog per hunter during deer season . who runs deer with dog's in this state anway , lets get back our training season , and josh i dont want to hear how we have to get along with fish and game / there not our friends . just watch wild justice / i'd like to see something gained / and killing more bears serves no purpose / unless no one paid any attention the quota wasnt filled this year so why raise it .

The reason i see raising the quota is to try and sell more tags, but i see it as a small step, Can't hurt only help, the season has closed due to quota 4 times in the last 9 years. with a higher quota the season has a better chance of lasting until the last sunday in december. Anywayse what do you purpose that everyone do to get these things back. I would love a training season again. but sad truth is uneducated tree huggers are more vocal than houndsmen and there is a lot more of them then us. Not trying to be a huge a$$ but its easy to complain and do nothing. If someone could form a plan that would actually be heard and make a difference, I would be first in line to help out any way that i could but since i don't have any ideas on how to really fix things maybe i should just keep my mouth shut huh.

Here's how I see it. 2010 was an anomaly. Check F&G's stats and you'll see the limit has been hit every season for ten years plus back. Raise the limit and the chances are you won't have to mail 25-30,000 in season closure notices. Money is tight. Regardless, we all need to support this proposal in writing, email, or in person. -Pete

this is why houndsmen of this state will never get back what fish and game took away from us , for no valid reason , all they have to do is let ya kill a few more bears , and your just sa happy sa clams , hey pete go back and look at the numbers this wasnt the only year this happend , that the season went tothe end , any real winter will stop this nomatter what the quota is . dont know why i even get drawn into this crap , but killing more bears doesn't help .

One on the complaints for not harvest limit or quota his not being able to get to some of the bear grounds. Not because there wan't any effort. All this move for bigger quota is a step in the right direction. Burning steam pointing fingers is all negative fuel against us and what the chc and houndsmen in general trying to accomplish. Telling the F&g they should give us back or else is not gonna work, But for those whom is willing to try it would be really entertaining to see. Attend the meetings and voice your opinions but ranting on internet site is alll ready stressful. Write your congressmen or your local rep in your area. Get involve with the Chc and other conservatives members who's trying to fight the anti's.

well your absolutely right. In the article on the top it factors in a certain amount of animals that are taken and not tagged. They estimate that 3100 bears could be a sustainable amount of animals killed each year and not affect the population.

The last time I looked at a F&G "Annual Bear take Report" F&G believe's that the bear population would maintain it's current population as long as the harvest and other mortality did not go above 20%, and with F&G talking about our Bear population at about 42,000 - 45,000 that would be 8400 - 9,000 bears, if 1/2 of the current mortality is Hunter harvest them they could raise the quota to 4200-4500 and still maintain the current population.

These are there #'s I'm working with.

Hi Guys,

1. The California black bear population has increased four-fold in the last twenty-five years.
2. The California black bear has re-populated all of its original range and is expanding its distribution into areas previously occupied by the grizzly.
3. The California black bear population and distribution will likely continue to increase as long as the DFG continues to manage them according to the four criterion currently employed in the Black Bear Management Plan.
4. The quota/in-season early closure mechanism has continued to increase over the years, and has done so without detrimentally impacting the ongoing prosperity of the black bear.
5. The prosperity of the black bear justifies an increase of the quota/in-season early closure mechanism.
6. Increasing the quota/in-season early closure mechanism will increase hunter opportunity and also benefit hound hunters by extending the time when more than one dog per hunter can be used.
7. Aligning the deer and bear archery seasons so that they run concurrently rather than consecutively will benefit bowhunters and also reduce the amount of time that hounds must stay out of the hills and woods.

Given these conditions, I hope that DFG can count on you to voice your support of the proposals to increase the quota/in-season early closure mechanism from 1700 to 2000 bear and align the archery seasons. Please do not let the HSUS and other anti-hunting organizations hijack the process by flooding the Department with emotional and irrational opposition to the proposals. Please send an email to the Department voicing your support to wildlifemgt@dfg.ca.gov. Your email does not have to be elaborate...simply saying you support the proposals as submitted will suffice.

Please feel free to share this post with your friends, family, and associates, and ask them to send an email as well. This is urgent, as the deadline for public comment is 5 p.m. on Monday, 21-MAR.
