Last week I was hunting with a group of houndsmen that I usually don't hunt with and our hounds caught a different looking coyote. This coyote looked like it was crossed with a fox. It was real red and had a fox looking face and not as big as most coyotes.
After the hunt I was talkin with these old timers (which most of are in there mid 70's and still walk on snowshoes thru one mile sections to hunt. gotta luv it!!) Anyways they told me they killed 5 coyotes like that in a 5 mile radius around there this winter, two of them even had white tips on their tail. My question is do coyotes and fox cross breed? This is sure what this looked like. I don't think it's a common deal but just wondering if anyone else has seen this.
coyote question
Re: coyote question
i have been told that it is imposible for a fox and a coyote to cross breed, they have a different number and make up of chromosomes. The same biologist then told me that he had a couple thet were crossed for sale, I have had them in my pen for 2 years now
