I was just curious if anyone has had this happen. My garmin recently will blink and clear the roads/names and then come back again. It will also recenter the map each time it does it. Needless to say it's a PITA. Dad has one that doesn't do it, works fine. I tried to add/remove or stop tracking each collar individually and it still does it.
Anyone got any ideas on what is causing it or what to do? I've head a master reset might work but I have to pull the map card first. Then my trails will be cleared.

Notle, you can save your tracks and waypoints easily on the computer with the CD that came with it. Then if you need them put back on the system or a new system it's easy to upload them.
You don't need to worry about pulling map card to do a reset it won't bother the maps at all.
Actually I'm not even sure if a master reset will erase your Waypoints and tracks.... I didn't pay much attension to that or not?

I don't mean to come across as arguementative, but a master reset will erase your maps as well as all the other data stored on the Astro(waypts, routes, tracks and dogs). I learned that one the hard way.

Like I said, I didn't pay attension to the Waypoints and Tracks I don't use those too much. So your probably right those very well might get erased, I know the dog tracks and dogs will get wiped out.. I'll take your word the the waypoints and if there were some saved routes or tracks.. My Gut tells me those would be wiped out and that's why I suggested to Upload them to a computer first, then after your reset Download them back.. takes about 2 minutes.
But anymore I don't pull map cards anymore when I do the reset on them. I used to pull the map cards before Reseting them because I was worried about it, and in my instructions for the master reset I wasn't sure so Irecomend the safe way and said in the instructions to pull the map card. (Better safe than sorry) But I've done it several times on several units and never lost maps..
But it's probably a smarter choice to keep telling people to remove the map card first..
It Doesn't take much to pull the map card.. So I'm not arguing what is the smarter choice..
I'll try it again when I get home to make sure something hasn't changed.. It's been a few Months since I've done a master reset on a unit but I've never been able to wipe out the maps from a Master reset.

A master reset will not erase the map card. It erases all user info that is stored in the internal memory. SO it will erase the waypoints, and tracks. Never tried it, but would also guess any maps that were stored in the internal memory would also be erased. Few do this as there is little room for maps.
I have seen the blinking a few times with no real explanation. A couple of times the batteries were low. A few other times it seemed GPS signal on the Astro was poor. Perhaps just the batteries low in both cases. Ha another unit that was doing it on a hunting partner. Turning off the auto zoom cleared his problem up. That autozoom is a real pain!!!

Well the truck still started, so I think there was enough juice to keep the GPS going.
I think auto zoom is off, but I'll check that. Then maybe try a master reset if that doesn't work.
