Irish wolfhounds?

dose anybody have a line of irish wolfs hounds out there that still hunt
im looking for a catch dog for once the yote and bear are up and runnin my blood will get any trackk movein and can catch his fair share but dosnt seem to like to fight that hard was just seeing if there was a line out there still

It's my understanding that not many IWH's are left that still have game in them, and are also prone to health problems. Just what I've heard. Good luck !

I know of a couple that breed and use them. Holler if interested and I'll get you their names.
I also have a friend near here in Roswell, NM that just got a male Staghound from Australia which is very comprable.
I can't remember the name of the breed right now..

On a somewhat related note....good to see a fast dog breed get some recognition. Even it is just in show.

I had a friend in Dakotas that use to raise Borziois and they are wonderful dogs but maybe becasue of the limited breeding stock for hunting in the US most of them did not do well and most had many health problems and are very short lived. He went to crossing stag hound on track greayhounds and came up with some pretty rough and tumble coyote gitters. His Grandfather had used similar crosses with a few other big jawed dogs thrown in years before to help clean out the last of the wolves in that area. Bet that old man is rolling in his grave seeing them wolves cropping up again thru these transplant programs.

the modern IW is essentially a wirehaired great dane. not fast enough to catch a yote w/ any wind left in him. they have even more health problems than danes average lifespan is 4-6 years. wouldn't bother with purebreds but maybe a stag/grey crossed to IW if i had something that would catch but not kill. wouldn't waste real money on getting them though. plenty of good killing stags and coyote hounds for a lot less money.

it would be nice to see someone with a nice line of stags x into the Irish and revive the breed back into a healthier working dog. I've seen some working danes that are vigorous healthy animals that lived ten to twelve years or more. a well muscled intelligent dog of that size is a sight to behold. my neighbor had a strain he raised. his house was in the center of his bull pasture and when they came up to eat the wife's flowers or raise general hell they'd sic one on them. they'd run at those bulls and start them moving then jump up grab a ear and sling themselves under his chin and upend a full grown Simmental bull. I never tired of seeing it. to me a dog manhandling a bull was a unheard of feat at that time and I thought it was the damndest thing i'd ever seen.
