What's your biggest bobcat?

Post by MThound »

Thought it would be interesting to see some of the largest bobcats taken. The biggest cat I have caught was 38 pounds.

The largest Dad has weighed is 35 #. Two were caught in Texas, 1 in the late 60's 1 in the 70's. The last was last year in North Florida....this Cat weighed 35 1/2 after being in the freezer for 3 days.

This video clip from Feb. 2010 in North Florida is a Cat that I feel could weigh over 40...look at the size of the Cat relative to Princess (the hightan bitch), she weighs in @ around 50#:

The 10 Cat that we weighed this Feb. in Forida: Tom's avg. 24 lbs; Sows 17 1/4

Any Tom over 30# is a shornuff Trophy, ame with a Sow over 15#.

Caught 2 the year before last one weighed 33 1/2 lb and one weighed 35 lb. the one that weighed 35, I had to make him jump out 12 times. The process lasted about 4 hours and was a little aggravating but alot of fun as well. I left one in a tree this year that would have been close to 35/36 lb not far from where I caught the one that weighed 35lb, I jumped him out twice and the third time I was 8 to 9 hundred yards from the truck and it was fixing to be dark so I left up the tree. I caught a sow cat that was the biggest I have ever seen this year that weighed 25 lb and was a dandy of a race. Don't find many over 20 lb. Season ended this past Monday I caught 35 and left 35 up the tree, it was a good year but had more climb tree's than I have ever had. Alot of the cat up tree's were small. Maybe there will be plenty to run next year.

I caught one 5 or 6 years ago that weighed 48 lbs. Caught several more that crowded 40 lbs, but not over 40. Seems like every year ther's at least one or two that go 35 or better. There should be some pretty good ones the next couple of years since trapping has been so tough for the last two years.

Hootie Shaw and Marion Graham caught a tom in December, 2010, that officially weighed by Wildlife Dept at 42#. Tom was caught in SW Oklahoma. They both reside in Oklahoma and have some fine bobcat dogs.

Neither of these gentlemen are on the computer, so thought I would enter this and congratulate them again for their catch with their hounds.

Cat was not that old and in good shape.

That weight was after it laid over nite on top of their dog box. So, fresh killed it could have weighed a little more? Pretty good bobcat anyway, as most run from 15 to 25 pounds. With some of the smaller females going under 15#.

My biggest bobcat is 36 pounds. He was a brute for northern Wyoming. Seems like anything over 25 is a good one around here. Saw one mounted in a bar(The Wildcat) in WI that weighed 52.

Caught one 39# even in 1999 and one 38.8# in 2011. Been trying to brake 40 pounds for 12 years and can't get it done yet. I've probably got 10 or 12 around that 33# to 35# mark and there dandy cats.
