Ok, so I had a cool experience when I walked out a lion track this year. Got within ten yards of her before she busted out of an uprooted tree. She then treed a stones through away. I was wondering if anyone has just walked one out and shot it in place without using the dogs or other interesting stories. Thanks.

Re: Walking out a track...
A friend of mine tracked down a 145# tom this winter in about2 feet of snow. I was away at a funeral when he got on the track. The second day he jumped it out from under a blowdown a got a shot as it stopped on a ridge. He made a poor shot and two more days of tracking with only one sighting the cat was still on his feet. I came back that night to hear the tale, and him asking for my dogs. I was reluctant to use the dogs as I figured the lion would be in a bad mood and possibly not able to tree. A couple hours of hide and seek and a few shots later he finally killed it from about 5 feet. I have to say it was exciting to say the least.

Re: Walking out a track...
I had two little puppies on a leash just walking it out for training. They didn't open until the ten yard mark. Maybe they saw the lion I don't know. It was all a big surprise to me cause I wasn't paying good attention cause I had my head down on the track. The lion jumped in a tree and that was it so I guess you can say I used dogs, sort of. But I didn't need them however I doubt it would took the tree without puppy noise. I didn't shoot the lion. It was a female. Anyway, it was kinda cool. I'm sure all you guys have some stories of getting close and I wanted to hear them.

@ chilcotin hillbilly, I was thinking you might need a shotgun to bust them like rabits when the shoot out of their cover when hunting that way. I'll probably just stick with dogs instead of trying it the hard way.
