Heres a drag I just made and a hitch for it. I took some of the ideas from a buddy and put a twist on it. Hopefully this will help some other people as it has for me.

I got my truck and trailer stuck in the snow a couple years ago. now of course i didn't have any snow chains and had to run to town and try and find a pair. $248 dollars later I thought maybe calling the tow truck wouldn't have been that big a waste. now these guys in new mexico are making some money using them for drags.

Mike that is a cool drag! I don't have any photos but being in the trucking business we have a lot of wore out chains and I have made some similar just not as nice. They really work for breaking up and fluffing that road. I use to try chain link but it just doesn't last long enough and you have to throw weight on it and then it gets all messed up.


Fluff a road with your's about 3 PM go home get on it at first light hopefully with the sun at your back and you can run it almost like fresh snow. A bear track will stand out like a diamond in a goat's behind! LOL!

Not being to kowledgable on drags I got a couple questions. Is that rolled carpet on the end ? and if so is it there to control dust and assist in rolling it up ? Also I am assuming you are doing this to size bear ?

Not much of a need for tire chains in Zimbabwe, but dragging trails in something we did daily on several leopard hunts.
Several trails were just two narrow tracks and it sure helped finding where a cat walked when we did drags.
An acatia is a tough tree and they work well tied behind the crusier, dusty if your riding in the back and the wind is wrong!!!
One obstical we had to deal with were the elephant that would walk the trails along the rivers we hunted, and at times they just refuse to move unless it's to push you out of the way.

Lol if your pups cant follow that one then you better send them down the road. I like the tree method but I hate having to get permits to use them.

It helps to know some truckers, those double wide chains can be costly, even the single wide. I picked up two double wides and two singles for $60! And the double wides are freaking NEW, almost hated welding them together.

Its used primarily to clear the dirt in the road to cut lion tracks.

Yes that carpet. I rolled it up like that to help push some of the bigger junk out of the way. And when you add water to the carpet it makes it heavier which will flatten and smooth the dirt out more, especially with the 3ft of it laying out.

Just a heads up on this topic. If you are using the Forest Service roads you may run into some issues with the local law Enforcement officer. Some lion hunters up in the Campwood area of AZ found out the hard way about dragging roads and the restrictions that the Forest service has on it.

Looks nice! Good idea with the chains, i've always used trees or chainlink. Only thing i'd like for you to do different on mine is offset it to the side so I can drag the sides a bit without driving in the ditch...
