here in maine we have to pay 35 dollars separate for a bear . they went from a bounty on their heads in the old days to part of your regular liscense to 5 dollars for a permit for hounders and bait hunters for a long time . deer hunters could still shoot them for free during deer season if they saw one but i think they have to pay now .they went from 5 to 35 in one year maine doesnt believe in going up something small like 100 percent  they give it to you hard and dry. so no cant say i like it .bear hunters pay more to hunt the woods than anyone else between bait site fees ,bait, some land requires an insurance if your guiding etc.... you pay the most for the least amount of access.my lobster liscense went from 16 to close to 800 now . it went up this year with predicted increase already. hate to run on ,but all the fees are ridiculous.it cost more to buy a turkey permit here than you can go to the store and buy one ready to cook. everything went from a dollar to tag to five dollars now .that happened in one year.maine is all about parting you from your money you can believe that.in one year they doubled all liscense fees then a year or two later they said you will be happy were gonna nock a dollar off each liscense what a slap in the nuts that was after going up 200 percent. guess they thought that dollar would buy some ky or some vaseline to get ready for the next rearending. on the flip side though maine goes to bat for its hunters when it comes to the antis .

I'm not sure what the Regs are in VA .But I honestly feel that part of the reason is the "F"ing Lib Democrats :( I say that from the point that for YEARS Maine F&G was a very well run operation . Lots of Non Residents came up to the state Fishing ,Hunting ,Hounding etc; Heck they were even showing a PROFIT many years .Then the WEASELS decided that Profit was no longer needed .A few votes and a few strokes of the pen and now all monies go into the " GENERAL FUND" Even the Moose lottery " Legalized Gambling" Now you take the southern Maine Lib ANTI's that would not know a Cariboo from a Moose ,Throw in several Federal Mandates . Wood mills and Vast tracks of land being owned by out of country owners and we have MAJOR issues going on . The same Mentality that wants to turn it all into National Parks , Not National Forests . Sad to say but that is where the $$$ are going these days

In Wisconsin its 3 bucks to apply. $17 every year to run the dogs and bait. And if you get drawn for a kill tag, which depending on the zone, is once every 7 to 9 years. Shorter waiting time in the southern zone where it is bait sitting only. All this for residents, not sure about prices for nonresidents.
