Pictures of cats that sold for over $700

Post by Dan McDonough »

I'm up here in Northern WI. and our cats don't have any chance of pulling down the prices that the cats out West do. I went to the big trappers convention to see if I could get a look at some of the Western furs and I did get to run my fingers through a couple of "select" pelts. I've never seen anything like them. It was almost like looking at a hologram. One had a blue hue to it and the other had the same kind of hue to it but it was more of a red. That is definately something I've never seen around this part of the country. I would like to see some pictures of those top dollar cats if anyone has any they would share.

Dan: If I can get Tim to post the pictures I will show you some good cats. At OTC sale last week my top cat $1178, the top cat at the sale $1251. This is a all time high for us out here and this was the best sale of the year. This went along with the best year for take for me. I finally got to pay off some bills and put a little in the bank. The prices seemed to just get better the longer you waited this year. Our high cat was around $750 back in early Feb.

Super good news Dewey! Buy a crapload of extra food to get you through the next several years. If the bible is right that will be about all you'll have to eat. If the stock market prognosticators are right, then you'll just be eating a lot cheaper than everyone else. One way or another you'll be ahead.

Thanks for coming to the rescue. I hope you have a nice picture of that cat. This year I was going to come West a little and go hunt a state where you can kill more than one cat every 5 years. I elected to purchase a Garmin system instead and just keep training around home. It was my best year also. Except for a little over two weeks (all together), the running was pretty dang good and I even managed to get something worked out on some of the days that I should have stayed home on.

If the economy doesn't crap out I hope to go to the mountains and scoop up one of those crazy looking alien cats to put on my wall. When I showed one of those blue cats to my son (6 years old) he said, "dad that confuses my eyes." I figured that was a pretty good observation for a little kid.

I look forward to seeing that one.

its great to see you guys getting paid for dogs and your hard efforts . most cathunters here are lucky to get a hundred bucks . i think this is a good thing for are area, because if they were worth what your getting paid they would be overhunted or stricter laws applied due to are cat population. i did get to see a bobcat harvested this year with all pure white legs and pink pads it was the first two of the guys that are in their 60s had ever seen like that. it is going to be full mounted.our cats are just to homely for the fur buyers sort of like a 2 dollar hooker.

Hey Dan, I sent my cats to the NAFA auction in Canada this year and got between 375.00 and 1050.00, sure helps with gas and dog food. Here are some pictures. Nick.

Wow those are some beautiful looking cats. I too hunt up here in northern wisconsin and they are drab looking and not spotted up like those cats, guess that comes from living in the mud and the muck 8 months out of the year.

Nick,

Way to go. I have to call you sometime and pick your brain about a couple of things. I have some theories about the breeding we're both using and you might have some answers reguarding the Reb X Pretty Girl stuff. I have not used it yet but I have a new idea that might work. Talk to you soon.

p.s. I can't wait until my son is older so he can come with. I envy your being able to enjoy cathunting with Noah. Pretty cool!

Not a seven hundred dollar cat, but I did get 700 for the pair.

The Tom stretched 43" and weighed 38lb's but didn't have the belly.
Not bad for an old man and a little Cur dog that only weighs 37lb's.

Jason,,, nice catch. I'm over on the Clearwater near Lenore..

Charlie,

Those look like some great cats. We both know that the price paid for them is just the cherry on the sunday, the sunday is the part that comes before the shot. Thanks for posting them.

Thanks Dan
Truth is, the real "Cherry" for me is still being able to get out and catch a little game once in a while.
Course, a little fur money now and then's nice too.
