Bells
Bells
I was just wondering if anybody ran bells on there dogs to help prevent wolves from coming in on them. We compete with alot of wolves in are area and if theres anything i can do to help prevent encounters ill try it.

That sucks finding out the hard way. Hopefully u got revenge! Down here in are lovely state the wolves are more protected than we are so we just have to deal with them.Im just trying to figure out ways to get around them but its hard cause they do come into are dogs and there in every canyon and hole we hunt.

I was listening to the radio on the rock station. And somewhere in canada I think? There was a kid walking home from school and there was 4 wolves flowing him so when they got close enough he blaired matalica on his phone. They didn't now if the lights on the phones scared them away or the music or bolth. Don't now if its true. But I was thinking if I put a bunch of those tracker lights and a figured out how to put a speaker with matalaca playing that might stop them.lol

Re: Bells
This was my friends dog last summer. He had a bell on him. My opinion, a wolf, or bear can pin point the dog with the bell. I would rather give my dogs a chance to shut up and run, in silence, then being told, what direction, they are running for their life. This pic is very sad, but also reality,as it looks like the dog watched, being eaten alive until he expired.

This might have happened more than at one place, but I know for shure it happened here in Norway. It was close to where my father lives. And for the record, he was on his way to school, walking to the busstop early in the morning.
Theres another tread about this subject on here. Some info there.
- You might want to ask "Sergey" on here about it. I'll bet he hunts in the most wolveinfested area in the world.

Re: Bells
I run bells an i think they work a little bit.. but if the wolves are dog killers in your area u are just pushing your luck thinking that bells will help against them. we had a dog killed that had a bell on but that pack had killed dogs before so it didnt even slow them down. I read a biologist study and he clamed that after a pack of wolves kill dogs there is a 90% chance they will continue to kill dogs, but i have seen the bells work the wolves will stay about 2 or 3 hundred yards out and just circle them.

Re: Bells
I would be as curious of area, perhaps in more open area, or open wooded the bells would work better? I choose not to use them in this thicker country, as I feel the dog has a chance to get away?

Re: Bells
That just makes me sick Im so glad we dont have to deal with them here YET. I wish our country would pull its head out and see these wolves were removed for a reason. I think all it would take would be the loss of one of my dogs to wolves and every thing in the country that looked like it even had wolf in it would turn up missing.

Re: Bells
I run bells more for when a dog is coming for a road it is easier to cut them off. As for dogs getting away without bells, wolves were born to hunt, don't you think they would scent your dog instead of listening for it to run away. I guess to each his own.
