Attention North Central New Mexicans/ Taosenos

Post by razorrb »

Que Paso!
Its been a long time since I have bear hunted there in Taos and what not. I was planning a bear hunt there this year and am curious which part of the season you prefer to run bear. For example is the second part of the season when the archery season ends best for bear or when it opens in August? Any ideas would be helpful. Gracias!

razorrb,
Y :P our best bet would be in August, being that particular zone opens is August it gets hit pretty hard. Make sure you run multiple trucks, we have had occasions where some of our dogs were hauled off and a couple stolen. Nice country , good luck any more info shoot me a PM. :)

The bear population is coming back. That area had a drought five years ago or so and the acorns were in bad shape. The drought whacked the bear population. That part of New Mexico opens August the 16 I believe, and only stays open for a few weeks. Yes every time I have went was the opener in august. I love it, nice and cool and beautiful country. Someday I may have a summer home there.

I remember elk hunting in an area where the oaks still are and seeing quite a few acorns. Not what your saying is wrong but I went back on an elk hunt in December of last year and there was more bear sign than I have ever seen in there. I hope it turns out good.
