Well, I prefer a Toyota for most of my hunting, once the snow gets deep I like a snow mobile. In the spring when the snow is patchy, I like a four wheeler with tracks, and when the snow is all gone and I'm huntin old logging roads, I like a four wheeler with wheels and for the days I can't catch anything, I like driving around in big jacked up truck so that at least I look good trying. :joker

i hunt out of a dodge..got a 98 half-ton on a 3 inch lift with 33 inch goodyear wrangler duratracs and that trucks taken me everywhere i've ever wanted to go.
it gets around great offroad and the 360 powers through some stuff in 2wheel i've seen lifted jeeps and what not have to lock into 4low to get through. its a tough truck, no doubt about it and boy will it pull some shit lol
only thing i dont like is its automatic..that and i'vebeen meaning to get a locker for the rearend..other than that its never left me anywhere.
downside is 8-10 MPG's offroad will leave your wallet hurtin a little lol
hank taught me just how to stay alive, you'll never catch out the house without my 9 or .45. i got a big orange tractor and a diesel truck and my idea of heavens chasin whitetail bucks...

Well I've already got a full size it just doesn't cut it in these tight mountains in my app. So ill narrow down my ? A little I've pretty much already decided on a older tacoma like a said maybe a 01-04 four door how have these automatics been holding up? I fear autos I've just had the worst luck with them in pickups. What other small trucks have u guys had luck with cause tacomas r thru the roof here like I've seen a few Nissan hardbodys not much for rangers. Also who is running quad or rangers with track's I know they go any where but do u really catch that much more stuff up in that super deep snow? I just starting out in his sport and I meen a Polaris ranger trks cost a lot but ya know if I'm gunna catch way more stuff cool. I do Hav a dog that will run dry ground so I'm just not convinced that deep snow is worth the trouble

I use a ford ranger 2007 4X4 5 speed works great. Look at the price of the rangers compared to the rest.

Well there CatCrazed, thats a matter of personal preferences, far as I know no such thing as the perfect rig for all conditions. I dont have ATVs or snowmobiles, but I do have snowshoes and boots and a decent backpack. sure wish I had the former sometimes though! Far as the hunting rig goes it mostly depends on what is still running after the weekend before, The dogs dont care if we go in a beater or in style. long as they get to go trashing is all that seems to matter to them. let me know if you find the holy grail, take care Ken :joker

Ken, it took me many years & alot of money to figure out what you just said. I have set myself up to run the high country although 90% of the game I catch come's from below the snowline. My opinion on a rig, 98-04 tacoma 4cyl auto(156,000mi & I hunt alot wont go back to stick) try not to pack around anything unnessary. keep it as light as possible. Keep in mind its a tool used to get you & your dogs on/off the mountain, if it costs to much to pay for, drive or maintain it defeats the purpose. good luck J.W.
