I didn't stay up last night but dialed in the DVR and pushed the record button on the lion hunting show. It appears lion populations are doing well in Utah other than places where easy access and snow cover allow doggers to put the smack on them. DWR's Mammal Coordinator says there are plenty of rough, inaccessible country in Utah where lion populations increase which allows those animals to disperse and become available for hunters. They even slamm-dunked a bitch to prove it!
After reading this board I figured it was best to stay home and save my gas money for bears, but after watching that show I think I'll load hounds and go lion hunting today!!!

WOW! Who are the D Bags that started Cat and Bear outfitting?? Go look at their webpage, they have maybe two lion pictures. But these are the same D bags that go on TV and say lion populations are increasing? Did you see there dogs? wow they claim they have a pack of dry ground dogs but im pretty sure i seen those idiot walking there dogs on a fresh track in the snow? This goes to show that utah will let anyone guide. And who is red creek outfitters? Are you serious? the two lions they showed the one in the tree and the one he had mounted in his "trophy room" were both 80 pd females. WOW I need to give adam eagle a call and have him come with a real houndsmen because he hasnt made it to a tree in two years, he keeps going with the deer hunters who buy there dogs off ksl and call themselves houndsmen. LOL

There are at least 2 different Red Creek Outfitters in Utah .I know both. Although i don't agree with killing females, both of these outfitters run dogs and both are the real deal.Red Creek Outfitters that was on television have been raising their own dogs for 30 or 40 years. Don't know anything about the other guys.
Re: Lion Population views on TV Utah
P.S. If he has been hounden for 30-40 years you would think he would know not to kill females on t.v. with TONY ABBOUT, who wants all the lions dead in utah?

I agree,They should know better .Like them guys or not, they can catch lions anytime. They're hard hunters, it's all they do , and they have damn good dogs. Not making any excuses for them .Never seen the show so i can't say on the other guys.

I didn't see the show but I know plenty about it... but I better just keep my mouth shut here. But talk is cheap and "by their fruits you will know them"... anyone that was surprised a dinky female died doesn't know Utah Hound Outfitters very well. I don't know a single one that wouldn't have done the same thing as them.
Redd, you are on the money buddy. Anyone that is in bed with Tony Abbott is certainly no friend to hounding. Because if there was ever an enemy to lion hunting and to our sport here in Utah, it's Tony.
But I'm bummed out because I missed it, and was thinking it was on Sunday night. But if a dinky female died and someone was talking about how the lion populations are fine, just business as usual for Utah lion hunting.
I wouldn't really hold it against those particular outfitters because you could plug in any other lion outfitter in Utah and the results would not have changed. Just how it is here I guess. I'd love for one of them to prove me wrong, but I ain't too worried about that ever happening.

Did anyone expect different, those guys just got the best free advertising they could have ever gotten.

Re: Lion Population views on TV Utah
Listening to them saying lions are over running the state then going out and shooting a little dink female is like listening to a shady outfitter telling potential clients that his place is over run by deer......then going out and shooting a fawn as proof. It makes no sense.
You guys know as well as I, that more deer equals more $$ for them boys, and more lion tags equals more $$ for them as well. What else are they going to say?? These boys are the moral equivilent of a used car salesman.

Re: Lion Population views on TV Utah
I just talked to my buddy and he watched the TV show... he just laughed. Said it had two different outfitters, and some clown for the DWR and a guy from the hound club. Here is how he summed it up:
If it was on deer hunting instead of lion hunting, it would be like doing a TV show and having Doyle Moss take the guy on a guided deer hunt. They'd have some clown from the DWR get on there and talk about how the deer herd is in great shape, you just have to stop road hunting and get into the back country a bit, but still plenty of big bucks, just gotta work for them. And then Doyle would talk about how deer hunters are just whining but the fact is he's hunted all over the state and the bucks are in great shape, and deer hunting is doing just fine in Utah...
And then Doyle would take the TV host out and whack a little 2 point that barely cleared the ears. So basically, his opinion of the show was it would be like showing 2 Deer Outfitters and a DWR guy all talking about how great deer hunting in Utah was... then one deer hunter saying that things were not great... so 3 against 1.
And then the outfitters whacking a 18 month old 2 point to make their point. Just with lions instead of deer.
Say what you want about Doyle Moss, but can you imagine him going on a TV show, talking up deer hunting and then dumping some little dink (or a doe) for the host? NOT gonna happen.
Boy hearing that report and reading this stuff sure makes me want to stay up late every weekend and watch a credible show like that.

Re: Lion Population views on TV Utah
It took me a little while to settle down after watching it Saturday night. I got on channel 2s web site and posted a comment about what I thought. I'm sure Don Peay will have someone gunning for me now
Yup, populations on the increase in Utah. What a load of *&%#@.
