Come on. You really do not know what you are talking about. There was a headgasket issue that was recalled way back. It was a recall, they fixed the problem. The v6 motors are a very good motor. The 4cylinder has has reached legendary status for being bullet proof, but the v6 junk?? No way.

like stated that is just my opinion on them. havent personally owned one but had a few friends that have(well for a little while) one we pulled it out and put in a 22re and another is at the machine shop cus it has a bent valve and the other had a bad bad rod knock at around 150k so with my experience with them they have been a pos oh yea we pulled the one out of my buddies 4x4 (and put in a 22re) and put it in the truck that had the bad rod knock it still runs good but has less than 100k on it i think we swapped it around 80k and put a new timing belt water pump ect on it.

I have had pretty much every motor Toyota put in a 4X4 pickup other than the 2006 or newer trucks. I had a 3.0 V6 in a 1990 Toyota pickup. Nothing was done to the engine until the head gaskets blew at 241,000 miles, other than oil changes. When the head gasket went I received the info about the recall. I called the dealership and told them the head gaskets blew and hoped they would discount the repair. They had the truck towed to the shop and had a new factory long block installed. They didn't cover a new water pump or valve springs, so I footed that bill out of my pocket. The engine replacement, towing and all other costs totaled over $6500. I paid roughly $400 for the parts that weren't covered on the recall, figured I might as well replace them, after all, they had a lot of miles on them. That truck is dancing awful close to 400,000 miles and still runs like a top. Most rigs never see 241,000 miles.

I have had the older 22r and would strongly suggest buying a Tacoma with the 2.7L four cyl. Way more power and better fuel efficiency. The kid said he has $7000 and he should have no problem finding a decent Tacoma 4X4 for that price. I would steer clear of a 20+ year old rig if you can afford something a little newer. My Tacoma's have held up a little better than my early 90's trucks and way better than the pickups from the 80's.

'98 or newer 4X4 Toyota Tacoma extended cab with the 2.7L four cylinder engine. They made them in both autos and manual transmissions. You won't go wrong with either.

Also the Turbo 4Runner from the 80's that my buddy owned was a four cylinder if I remember right.

I have a Toyota tacoma with the 2.7 geared and locked in the back. With 32. Inch tires. Cool air, high flow cat, and throttle body spacer. Extra cab is nice had the truck now for five years. Only prob I have had is the trani is laying on the ground have to get it rebuilt. But a ranger with the 4.0 would be the only other little truck or an old Nissan with a four cyl. Stay away from the 3.0 six in any vehicle. It's not a great motor. Have lots of friends that have Toyotas. The 3.0 never seem to make it get pulled and a 3.4 goes in or a 4cyl goes in

Listen to George,,, He obviously's been there.
I'm on my third Toyota. My last one, a 92 RegCab 22R went 235,000 with just a Radiator change. My current 02 ex-cab V6 has 115,000. Only thing I've changed is the battery and two sets of wiper blades. I expect it to go 200,000 easily.
I'll put in a new engine if this one ever dies and keep on trucking. I'm 62 and don't ever plan to buy another truck. Don't think I'd be saying that if I drove another brand.

Good luck young man.

I haven't tried to attract any ladies in over ten years. Probably a good thing because I am not exactly in the lady attracting shape these days. Heck I only shave for weddings and funerals anymore.

I do know there is nothing less attractive than having to coast to the side of the road and attempt a repair while your lady friend waits in the cab. Although getting stranded isn't always a bad thing. Odds are a Toyota isn't gonna help you get stranded but a guy could run out of gas if you think it might help your chances. :D

i use a ford explorer, people in the front, hounds in the back, hides on the roof. we bought a vehicle to use just for coon hunting, because coon hunting DESTROYS a vehicle. muddy hunters, people smoking eating chips drinking pop, muddy, wet, bloody dogs, bloody coon hides. you get the picture what the interior of my explorer looks like.

I hunted out of a 99 Camaro for awhile. It got 24mpg and I wasn't too big on keeping the interior in shape. One of the younger guys that worked the roofing crew with me was after me to buy it. I finally broke down and sold it to the kid. Well the trunk area was perty bad. Coon, Squirell and fish blood made it look like a war zone... not too mention the back seat was in no shape for sitting. For the life of me I could never remember to roll up the windows before it rained. That car down right stunk!!
